I love both sending and receiving cards and always will, however some of my workmates are deciding this year not to do it. They are going to email and facebook their friends and relatives. I hope this does not happen to everyone. It's so nice to watch for the postman and look for any cards and then get a lovely surprise when half a dozen come through the letter box! They are strung up above my mantelpiece ( yes I still have one)and really help to add to the festive spirit

I still send them. I rather like choosing them, sending and receiving them. I am retired now, but when I was at work, some
people chose not to send them but to donate to charity instead. I buy most of my cards from a local childrens hospice charity so I am donating in a way.

I love to get cards so I send them in the hope that others will reciprocate.

Yes I do send cards but fewer and fewer each year and always a religious themed card. I like receiving them and any news within but not the 'Jocasta has had a marvellous year since she got into the Juilliard' kind of thing.

My list keeps growing each year and I don't like to cross anyone off. I buy them in the January sales, they must be charity shop and religious. They spend the summer in a special box under the bed so I know where to find them. I keep a list on the computer and print it, and the address labels out in November. The only problem is the cost of the stamps!

I send to a lot less than I used to, people I never have contact with at any other time were the first off the list and then the usual losses over the years. Then the postage started getting ridiculous, so now I only send about half a dozen.

I still send them - always charity cards. And I do like receiving them - as long as they don't contain any of those Round Robins that are one long brag. I crossed one family off the list a few years ago because of an extreme example of a RR brag.

I know a few people who've stopped sending them and say they're giving the money to charity instead. However they're all pretty well off and could afford to donate extra anyway if they wanted to, so I suspect it's really a case of CBA.

Postage is prohibitive but I still like to send and receive cards. My children and grandchildren tend to send cards to older family members but not to each other or friends. I too dislike the round robins which are either bragging or detailing ill health issues. Just send good wishes in a card to show friends they are in your thoughts

Yes, we send and receive Christmas cards ( ecards are not the same!) Since we rarely get any letters these days, mostly email, it's really nice, and like others, a lot of them are displayed as they look Christmassy, others put in a bowl to be kept ( sometimes there are address or phone or email changes in them that you need to keep.)All the neighbours in our Close exchange cards, and we post about 25.

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 15:15:16

Yes, postage is very expensive.tchshock

grannypiper Wed 09-Nov-16 15:28:07

ecards cant sit on the mantlepiece so mean nothing. I only buy religious scenes with Merry Christmas written inside not festive greetings or even worse happy holidays Grr. I buy the stamps when on offer in superdrug

shysal Wed 09-Nov-16 15:55:31

Any e-cards I receive I print off onto thin card and display with the posted ones, so I am happy to receive either. tchsmile
I post about 20 charity cards and hand deliver a similar number each year.

I used to make all my Christmas cards starting in the Autumn but no one seemed to appreciate them and now I just don't have time. The WI I went to (recently resigned) decided they would only send one card to the group which some of us didn't really like and carried on handing them out to each other. I still send them out and look forward to receiving them and the catch up letters a couple enclose but the cost of the postage is so prohibitive it's making it harder each year.

tiggypiro Wed 09-Nov-16 18:37:54

No I don't and havn't done for a few years now. I ring people up and have a lovely long chat and a cheque gets sent to charity. A win win situation in my opinion.

DanniRae Wed 09-Nov-16 19:21:58

Yes, I send (and hand out, if poss) Christmas cards and I am very happy to do so. I am also very happy to receive them and can't imagine this changing any time soon.

BlueBelle Wed 09-Nov-16 19:31:20

I ve just made my 50th card I have a couple of friends who have told me they have kept every one of my handmade cards over the years
For me it's the best part of Christmas and I hate the ' not sending ' trend I don't want ecards or good wishes sent on a phone I want a card to hang up and look at and decorate my house with

NanaandGrampy Wed 09-Nov-16 19:50:38

I send to close friends and family. Some years I make my own, each individual to the recipient but this year it will be bought cards as I'm busy making Christmas baubles for everyone instead.

Judthepud2 Wed 09-Nov-16 20:07:14

I have just ordered mine from Marie Curie. Money to charity, card to show friends and relations I am thinking of them. Win win. I love receiving them too. Unfortunately this year several on my list have died, but the gap still means I think of them.

Izabella Wed 09-Nov-16 20:24:03

Yes but e cards only. Cost of the card plus postage all put to the Guide Dogs charity. Sadly one or two less this year.

I love Christmas but can't bear this crazy shopping fest with folks buying things they don't want often with money they don't really have and cards come into that category for me.
I send ecards abroad which saves a fortune. And I send ecards to folks I don't have a lot to do with. I like to hear folks news but these "boastmas letters" really take the biscuit. We have a five page technical colour letter from abroad and, even though folks don't know the family, they await this letter as it's so spectacular!

BlueBelle Thu 10-Nov-16 04:13:46

Ecards mean absolutely nothing to me in fact I dislike them with a vengenence
But totally agree about the round robin idea I dropped someone off my list last year for that reason I have no interest in knowing her husband went to the theatre last week and there garden looks lovely since they had a £1000 make over Blimey I haven't seen them for 20 years

mumofmadboys Thu 10-Nov-16 07:23:11

We send about 65 cards in the post. We have moved several times and these are relatives/ friends we try and keep in touch with. I don't send any to neighbours or people I see. I just wish them a happy Christmas. I confess we do send a round robin letter to some of our friends. We have 5 kids and just letting folk know a little of our news would take a long time to write individually . I try to make the letter informative and amusing and certainly wouldn't say so in so had so many A stars . We do get quite a bit of positive feedback re the letter folk saying they like to hear our news. Does anyone else send one or am I the only one? I enjoy reading the ones I get. We usually receive about ten I guess. I feel disappointed if someone sends me a card with no news but perhaps I am just nosey!!

DanniRae Thu 10-Nov-16 08:32:12

I detest boastmas letters - great term - and I too am dropping someone off my list because of her 'boring' effort last year.

If I haven't been in touch with someone since last year I put a quick "Hope you are all ok. We are all fine" and if anything has happened worth mentioning I add that = births, deaths and marriages. I don't imagine anyone wants to know how many holidays I have had, if my children have written a best seller, I have had a sun room added etc. (1 holiday, rest is fantasy!!)

Mumsy Thu 10-Nov-16 08:50:26

Only now send one and thats to my baby grandson, stopped all the others a few years back, surprising when you stop sending people stop sending cards to you. It seems a case of you buy me a card I will buy you one!

radicalnan Thu 10-Nov-16 09:40:54

I am donating money again this year to a charity of my choice, something local so I know where the money went.

I have kept cards from my parents who are dead but I know would wish me all the best at Christmas so they will come out, it will be nice to have them here, they did so many Christmases for us when we were kids.
