Fun

What an odd question! Yes, we still have "fun", especially when we get together with friends every Saturday for racing club.

No, we don't fall about laughing chasing each other around the house, or go into paroxysms of laughter whilst indulging in gurning competitions between ourselves, although we have been known to raise the odd smile, or even chuckle at the antics of our next door neighbours toddler or our own cats.

Are you sure you're not confusing "fun" with just sort of general pleasure/happiness,?????

Perhaps you would like to elucidate? (big word for a Wednesday )

We don't have lots of 'fun' if you mean jolly japes, practical jokes etc but we (DH, family, friends etc) spend quite a lot (not all obviousl) of our time laughing or smiling.

Like phoenix, I'd be interested to know what fun means to you.

Yea I have fun at my WI especially on the afternoon we play Rummikub. We also go out on trips, the next two are to the V and A and Kew Gardens at Xmas, where we enjoy ourselves.

When DH and I meet old friends we reminisce and laugh about past exploits.

We had fun at Marwell Zoo with the grandchildren to celebrate my 70th.

I do realise that not everyone is in a position to have fun because of health issues, so I am making the best of things whilst I can.

I expect to have plenty of fun in Blackpool on Saturday. We are going on an outing, to see the Illuminations. I always have loads of fun with the grandchildren when I visit Glasgow.

Yes we do enjoy ourselves - only sometimes on the golf course its a pretty grim business at times but girly golf mornings can be fun. When I meet up with my sister and daughter we are usually quite silly - we all have a mad sense of humour quite Pythonesque. I have to say I had the most knicker wetting giggles watching Ed Balls on Saturday night.

I have lots of fun, if that means being carefree and a little bit silly and taking pleasure in the moment. And enjoying the quirkiness of life! For me learning or experiencing something new is always fun.
Children have fun because they immerse themselves in what they are doing now and don't let the past or the future intrude.

We have leaf fights, climb trees, play on playground equipment (when there are no children.....well when there or no or only a few lol), torment each other, collapse in fits of giggles....the list is endless.

Sometimes we get funny looks from other grown ups but we're not hurting anyone and they probably wish they could still climb trees etc.

Due to life circumstances we both did the 'grown up' stuff from an early age. We decided at 50 that we we'd had enough of growing up and decided to grow down and enjoy life the way children do.

Vampirequeen, that sounds such fun, I'm going to 'call' for you, will you be able to come out to play? Lol

No not really I still had fun up to the grandkids growing into o teens and out of Nan time but fun doesn't trip off my tongue any more can't think of any situations that have been ' fun' for a good while I enjoy lunch with friends and visits to the cinema but that's not what I call 'fun'

Most of you replying that you have fun are referring to "We". So much easier to have fun as part of a couple !

I don't seem to have as much "fun" as I used to! Everything seems to take far longer in order to get ready for fun: dressing for a 'do', finishing my blogging work, walking the dog (that's ALWAYS fun!) and looking after the admin, the house & garden let alone getting to Pilates! Anyone else have this problem? Suzi x

I belong to a 60plus club and we do all the stuff we wish we'd done years ago. White-water rafting, abseiling, belly dancing, laser tag. The list is endless......

Much easier to have fun when you are in the fortunate position of automatically referring to yourself as "We". I remember those days and the plans " We" had.

Single granny you can still have fun on your own. I'm sorry it's hard for you at the moment.

I love singing, and found a great class through my local U3A (University of the 3rd Age). They have loads of other fun groups too. I would recommend giving them a try.

I do still have fun, Monday nights at the ukulele club are very enjoyable and a laugh. I also enjoy other U3A groups. Mrs. P also enjoys various U3A groups and meeting her friends. Notice I haven't used the WE word, as we do all theses thing independently. We do have a lot of joint interests as well, but even some of theses could be enjoyed by just one of us. Several single people go to our dance class.

I have fun when I go out with my daughter or we go on holiday together. My husband and I have fun when we go away for weekends on our own or with friends.
However, to be honest, DH isn't that good at fun!

Jayanna I do have some fun on my own and am a member of WI, U3A , a choir and 3 bridge clubs. Its 10 years since I lost my husband, and I have learned to cope, but I still miss him and regret the loss of the life we planned.
I will try not to sound bitter, I remember being a smug married myself !

Sadly not since I retired. Like radicalnan, none, nada, zilch. Fun is like the other work with three letters beginning with s... My social life is Slimming World where I have met some lovely people and I'm joining a Book Club with one of them next week.
Wobblybits, my sil has just bought a ukulele and is having great fun learning to play it. Seems to be quite popular at the moment.

I was just thinking about that this week. DD was going on a 'girls night out' - lots of booze and carrying on until the small hours. Meanwhile I was going to a 'girls session' at a neighbours house. I did dress up. However, I met new ladies, had a great chat, played bridge, had a delicious tea and was home by 6.00pm. I couldn't have enjoyed it more. A good time had by all but so different from a few decades ago!
