So who's in charge there?

Well I must admit the sky might well have fallen in if Listen with Mother had been broadcast at any time other than quarter to two in the afternoon.
The closing tune was cue for me to go and have a lengthy afternoon sleep which my mother managed to maintain until I went to school aged 5.

Why so late ?

It all boils down to that very unpopular concept (said with huge irony) of 'responsibility' its always someone else's fault it seems.

Mind you......it worries me that the BBC thinks under 5s need TV after 7!!. They should have been 'wound down' as my Mum used to say, and be ready for bed.

I too would be irritated if a programme little one's enjoyed and was part of their routine had undergone such an upheaval

It might have been cbbc which is for older children.

CBBC is for older children, CBeebies winds down with In the Night Garden and a story for those parents who can't be bothered to read to their children.

Not that I have watched it for ages, I do miss Justin and Mr Maker.
Although there is nothing to stop me watching CBeebies on my own I suppose

Mr Maker can lead on to some lovely craft hours with the DGC (they never turn out like his of course)

My two GDs loved Mr Tumble and whatserface - was it Sarah Jane? Still got a dvd of recordings somewhere...

My DGS1 used to watch In the Night Garden in his 'jamas with his milk before he went up to bed, so it was a signal that his time was up! I can't remember him watching anything else. And he was always read a story or two once he was tucked in. Rituals like that are nice for younger children.

I used to think that the person who wrote Night Garden had to have partaken of some illicit substances

And Justin seems to have some sort of hold over Grandad now - he carries on watching long after DGS2 has got fed up of him.

Remember the Magic Roundabout?

I used to think they were probably all partaking of magic mushrooms but I enjoyed it anyway!

And then we moved on to Monty Python - proof positive that there was something in the air at the Beeb!

That Dylan certainly seemed to have been!

I loved Magic Roundabout, was just mad about it, I remember my husband was attending a lecture and the psychologist giving the lecture suddenly said ' see you tomorrow, must get home for Magic Roundabout , and dashed out of the lecture hall

Abney and Teal is required watching on CBeebies, along with The Clangers and Peter Rabbit (Squirrel Nutkin in his air ace flying goggles!). And in the Night Garden I feel the Wottingers (in blue) are unfairly upstaged by the red-garmented Pontypines.

Now back to Proust.
