DH has, it turns out, bought a large map of Mars as a birthday present for ur 8 year old GD. So far so good. But he has had it framed. I feel this is a misguided present on so many levels. The size, indestructibility, the safety aspect of a large framed picture in a very small bedroom, the need to keep it displayed so as not to hurt his feelings, the GD probably not having more that a fleeting interest in Mars, my DD having just moved into her very small and forever home and thrilled to decorate it with her own things etc etc
DH intends to present it to GD later today. I know it is not my problem but my instinct is intervene and suggest he ditch the frame no matter the cost, as it turns the map into a massive permanent obligation.

"Old fashioned" expressions that young people have never heard.

But you can bet yer life there will be other things, girly or otherwise, she will want to put on her walls (small bedroom - huge frame - bit unfair?)
