Coffee Pods

Have tried coffee from them a few times and not impressed, much prefer our simple filter coffee maker.

I gave son a pod coffee machine for Xmas. He swears by it. Very impressed. I like the ones I have used in hotels (when I'm not somehow buggering them up )

I can never a grain free cup of coffee from a percolator, no matter how much I strain it.

I have an Aerolit, but it's a bit of a faff. Gone back to Marks and Sparks instant.

Miep, can you say why you like it so much because I don't like the results at all.

I like my pod machine too, my husband has decaf and I have full strength so it makes life easier.
Cafetiere is good when we have guests so best of both worlds.

Coffee pods are an environmental disaster, totally unnecessary and should be banned imho. Period.

I was thinking of getting one but worried about how the environmental issue of all those little empty pods.My daughter says you can send them back to Nespresso to be recycled.However, in today's Times there is an article about this very problem- apparently it's difficult to recycle them , and most , a huge amount, are ending up in landfill.So Izabella , it seems you are right!

I like to try different coffee blends and roasts, with pods you are limited to what the manufacturer want to supply. Pods do sound an unnecessary waste of resources. Even posting them back compounds the waste.

I've also read that the used pods are a huge environmental issue. I wouldn't use them because of that plus I don't buy Nestle products so a pod machine would be useless to me!

They are a waste of resources. What can be easier than a cafetière?

Kicks Count is a charity which collects and recycles many things, including coffee pods. There are local collection points in lots of places. They work to reduce the number of stillbirths and neonatal deaths.

I love my Tassimmo. I have a latte every morning . Then we make a pot of filter coffee in the evening.

My current choice is a costa blend and is very mellow and certainly comes out hot enough. If it was any hotter you would lose the natural sweetness of the milk ( so our local independent Barista told me ).

There's enough choice of blends for me as we supplement it with beans we grind ourselves.

I don't mind a cafetiere BUT it doesn't stay hot so if I don't drink it in its entirety its a bit of a waste.

DH loves his latte from a Dolce Gusto. We don't use the milk pods as they are horrible. The milk is warmed in the microwave and then coffee added from the machine. I prefer tea myself.

Re the cafetiere coffee not staying hot, we use a small one that just makes enough for our two cups - if we want more, we make another one so it's fresh.

We have gone down the cafetière route , and it was fine for a breakfast coffee but my machine makes a perfect latte so I won't be changing back :-)

I have a problem with coffee as I have no sense of smell or taste and the only thing that resembled the coffee I loved was filter. However i've got the Tassimo in our apartment and like the carte noire ones. I only drink black coffee so all the different flavours are lost on me. I'd no idea there was a recycling issue with the pods

A cafetiere isn't a substitute for coffee pods because the pods produce espresso coffee. I used to love my Nespresso machine but DH started roasting his own coffee so I gave the Nespresso to DS. He and his girlfriend can't afford to use it much so they aren't doing too much damage

The milk for lattes and cappuccinos shouldn't be too hot because it will caramelise and spoil the taste of the coffee, you shouldn't put brown sugar in coffee because that will also change the taste. (Once a barista always a barista )

I've got a Nespresso (gift from my lovely daughter!). I can't get to grips with the thing at all! It gives half a cup of strong coffee, lukewarm frothy milk, and to be honest, I prefer a cup of instant any day! Now if George Clooney could come round and show me how it works... ?

I like the blue pods best with the gold decaf as my favourite for after 4pm
I would not be without it.

All most interesting ladies; in spite of the praise heaped on coffee-pod machines by those who love them, we definitely won't be getting one! But I'll raise a cup to you tomorrow morning happy in the knowledge that we are all enjoying our coffee in the way that we like it - and that's just how it should be. Cheers!

You can see by looking at the way those pods and pouches are constructed that they are not designed with recycling in mind.
What is wrong with a cafetiere?

You can make more than coffee with a pod machine. I like the lemon/peach tea and DS likes chocochino. There are loads of others and you can make them hot or cold. There is no way I could keep that variety of packets/jars in the house.
Our local Kicks Count will take Tassimo pods.
