Signs of autumn

This morning I noticed that all the leaves that came off the trees during the last few windy days were all seer and yellow.

Then when I went for my morning walk I packed my blackberry bag in my pocket and came home with 6 oz of beautiful blackberries, just collected as I walked along.

When I went up the garden I gathered plums, courgettes, runner beans, sugar snap peas and apples so had to turn on my 'spare' freezer because there is no longer room in my main one.

Autmn is on its way

I have to agree MOnica. You can smell it in the air. I took the dogs out about 6pm, it was a lovely, warm evening but the sun is now very low in the sky. It has been another poor summer in the north west. I'd love one of those 1976 summers again.

Mind you, I am not complaining. Autumn is absolutely my favourite season.

DaphneBroon Mon 08-Aug-16 20:26:17

Am I the only one who dislikes Bake Orf ??

LullyDully Mon 08-Aug-16 21:09:12

Probably.

Maggiemaybe Mon 08-Aug-16 21:21:46

No, you're not, grannylyn65 smile Though to be honest I don't dislike it so much as just can't be bothered. I don't watch any cooking programmes.

Ana Mon 08-Aug-16 21:27:14

I don't watch any 'instructional' cookery programmes, but I like Bake Off just for the personalities and the occasional baking disasters!

I too thought tonight that autumn is coming. My daughter reckons though that summer is about half way through! She has a lot to learn! smile

The temperature is going to be in the early 30's C this weekend in London but I am switching on lights earlier.

Bake Off AND Poldark.

That'll do nicely.

Stansgran Mon 08-Aug-16 21:48:21

The wind yesterday and today has covered the lawn with leaves. Practising for autumn I think.

M0nica Mon 08-Aug-16 22:46:45

Never watched Bake Off or Poldark, but Location x 3 is back this week.

obieone I do not know about summer being half over. I didn't think it had even begun yet!

I don't know where you all are but its 5 past 11 at night and we still have all the bi-fold doors open into the garden.

M0nica Mon 08-Aug-16 23:05:10

At 5 past 11 in Oxfordshire the weather is decidedly nippy.

Thank goodness for that a certain person has been poo-pooing my suggestions that there is an Autumn tang in the air- mind you I am a sensitive soul.smile

Just noticed it this afternoon in the West Midlands. It has been very windy all day and at about 5pm it suddenly became very chilly with a definite autumnal feeling. sad

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 09-Aug-16 21:56:57

I changed my clothes three times today. First thing it looked sunny so started with a sundress to do gardening. Got chilly so changed to knee length shorts and shirt. Still chilly so went on to linen trousers and a cardi. Now, watching I player with blanket over legs.

Definitely autumnal. Sigh!

Does anyone remember 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' where the Indian bearer ( played by an British actor) used to do an Indian throat clearing thing and then say 'We British love to talk about the weather' with an Indian little head shake.Haha, it's true isn't it?The best thing about British weather is it's complete unpredictability.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 09-Aug-16 22:55:35

Heatwave at the weekend?

M0nica Wed 10-Aug-16 09:54:36

Indian Summmer. We get one every year grin

DaphneBroon Wed 10-Aug-16 09:57:38

So they say.
Actually loving the crisp mornings and cooler evenings and nights. The hot nights of last weekend were very uncomfortable.
My only regret is that there are Summer clothes I have not got round to wearing yet and it doesn't seem worth even looking them out now.

shysal Wed 10-Aug-16 10:28:47

I too have been noticing the signs of Autumn. We don't really seem to have had a proper Summer yet! My favourite season is Spring, with the promise of light nights and mornings as well as some warmth.

I am looking forward to Bake Off too. Last year's winner, Nadya, is to be a judge on the junior version to be aired in November, which I shall be recording.

We were in Pézenas, South of France near Montpellier for last few days- just can't stand the heat! Lovely last night to get back to our green mountains and a cool night. But this morning- we had thick fog- just like in the autumn. Couldn't believe my eyes. All cleared now and lovely sunshine- but not normal August temps- about 23C - which is great for me.
