Signs of autumn

This morning I noticed that all the leaves that came off the trees during the last few windy days were all seer and yellow.

Then when I went for my morning walk I packed my blackberry bag in my pocket and came home with 6 oz of beautiful blackberries, just collected as I walked along.

When I went up the garden I gathered plums, courgettes, runner beans, sugar snap peas and apples so had to turn on my 'spare' freezer because there is no longer room in my main one.

Autmn is on its way

It was chilly this morning when I hung the washing out. 7.30 ish. My hands and feet ( no shoes) were quite cold
Rowan berries on the tree in our garden are very red

The nights are certainly drawing in quickly, I have been noting the time over the last week or so and it seems to be about 5 mins earlier each evening when needing to put the lights on, and street lights flickering. Last night it was just before 9.
Also noticed the leaves on the path as I was walking home from work, cobwebs with dew on them in the morning, and the dreaded spiders are already coming back into the house.
I love the autumn so not complaining, hate the hot weather.

Oh stop it please ! Let us enjoy summer even if it is a bit hit and miss..

Goodness, some one will soon be telling us they have written and posted all their flaming c*******s cards and put up the decorations.

Up here in Scotland, it's getting dark around 10 pm. If we get some clear nights over the next couple of days we should have a good view of the Meteor shower that appears at this time of year.

The forecast is good across the UK over the week end, so summer is still with us!

So enjoying the Summer - but I am not worried about autumn coming as it is my favourite season- huge crisp skies, wonderful colours and lots of fruit, nuts and mushrooms to go on forays. The only month I hate is November - so going for a second Spring, to meet lots of the family we have never met, in Cape Town.

Then hopefully a great winter this year, cold and crisp, huge skies and lots of fluffy snow.

Which **ids are those meteors, j52 ? (Perseids? Leonids?, thingumyids?) I think it is Perseids?

Elegran Wed 10-Aug-16 13:08:38

Granjura Sorry to depress you with the C lunch - but you have to book ahead to beat all the works outings of lads and ladettes. Fourteen ladette GNers signed up!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 10-Aug-16 13:10:02

It's cold.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 10-Aug-16 13:10:32

(The weather, not their dinner)

To see the meteor showers here you have to get up between 11 and 4, and go somewhere with no light pollution. I will give it a miss. Seen one shooting star, you've seen 'em all.

LOL Elegran, only jesting ! Enjoy.

It is however to very British to organise **** lunch in July/August - doh sad

A sign of Autumn I am seeing at bedtime walkies, is the regular sighting of hedgehogs scurrying along in the undergrowth!

seacliff Wed 10-Aug-16 22:50:13

I keep hearing cat plates clattering outside in the evening, it is a hedgehog clearing up. I want him to fatten up well before hibernation, so always put some extra food out for him.

J52 Wed 10-Aug-16 23:34:06

Yes Perseids. Cloudy again tonight so no sightings! Always tomorrow !

J52 Wed 10-Aug-16 23:35:14

Hope to see them, were in a Dark Sky park!

Forgot to go and have a look last night- one of the things we love here is that there is NO light polution and the starry nights are just amazing.

Today was hot and sunny but the sun light had a definite autumnal tinge.
