A picture has just appeared on my FB page of yet another little dog on wheels. This one is a minute dachshund whose front legs are paralysed. I'm ambivalent about this-yes the dog is mobile after a fashion but is it the best thing for the dog? I'm a great admirer of Noel Fitzpatrick's pioneering work with prosthetics as it returns the dog/cat to a virtually normal life but I'm just not sure about the wheels. How does the animal cope indoors when the wheels are removed? Or with sudden loo requirements? I'm not too comfortable with the thought of these animals either dragging themselves around or being strapped onto wheels where they can't even lie down.
