At the moment (going to lower the tone here) its the Go Compare ad, sing it often and when it comes on I join in with gusto and it lifts my mood instantly.
My knowledge of classical music is non existent. There are a few pieces I really like but I can't put a name to them. My all time favourite popular song is "I heard it through the grapevine"
Some lovely choices here. Mine? Maybe Beethoven Violin Concerto. Greensleeves? Mr Tambourine Man? No, it'll have to be Leonard Cohen but which song? Buddy Holly Every Day? Or Bryn Terfel singing Shenandoah. Or Once in Royal David's City from King's College Chapel on Christmas Eve. I'd better go and listen to some music! Can't even easily make a short list!
Crikey! There are so many, but the one that gives me the biggest lift when I need it is Bach's Prelude in E Major played on the piano (preferably by Helene Grimaud). It is originally from one of his violin partitas, but it is Bach at his most vibrant, exuberant and sensationally uplifting. It will definitely be played at my funeral, along with Coronation Scot, to which I will depart this life's platform. ”The train now leaving platform three is the Coronation Scot....".
Elrel I listened to Bryn Terfel a couple of nights ago singing "Some enchanted evening". Another of my favourites . I have a recording of him singing Shenandoah.
