How to deal with a yuk moment?

Oh....yuk and double yuk! I think I would probably have had something to say about it!

Yuck indeed. I'd probably have just sat cringing too. I did once when a man behind me on the bus sneezed suddenly onto the back of my neck. I didn't want to embarrass him by scrubbing at it with a tissue Straight up to the bathroom to wash when I got home though!

Oh lord, a huge yuk from me . I suspect I would have been so taken by surprise that I wouldn't have said anything either. But I would have gone straight up to wash my hair again when I got home!
I remember stopping to buy an ice-cream from one of those vendors with refrigerated handcarts - the vendor was a young woman with waist length hair which was NOT tied back. It was a hot day and she'd obviously done well, as she had to reach right down inside the container - and her hair fell inside. I actually saw it IN the ice cream. She went to hand me my cone and on this occasion (I'm usually such a wimp), I said 'I don't think so, do you? Your hair has been in that ice-cream!' She just looked at me in shock, no apology, no red face

Jane10, that's happened to me a couple of times in a supermarket when the checkout operator has done the same and then just carried on scanning my shopping!

I admit I didn't say anything either, just washed my hands thoroughly when I got home and hoped there were no germs lurking on the goods. But then, how many germs are there on supermarket baskets and trollies already anyway?

Must admit it's a bit different when someone's actually putting their hands on your person, though!

I think I would have been too cowardly to say anything but would have gone straight home and washed my hair ! A couple of winters ago I sat on a packed bus next to a man who was coughing and spluttering for the 30 minute journey, he did apologise to me. lo and behold a few days later I was coughing and spluttering too and ended up taking antibiotics for a severe chest infection. I wish people would use tissues or stay in when they are ill instead of infecting everybody else. Moan over!

Some years ago I was doing a temp job on a trading estate where a van would come at lunchtime as there was nowhere to get any food. Occasionally I'd get a coffee and a bacon butty until. ... Someone I was working with mused about what the person in the van would do if they wanted a toilet. I could never face getting anything from a van again ?

It is dodgy though. My ancient mother who never leaves the house and from whom we stay away if we have anything wrong has just got over a nasty Coke. The only place we think she could have caught it is from the delivered shopping bags. So someone who didn't take care with their cold.

Those nasty Cokes can be very troublesome, can't they?

When I was a teacher (adults) one of the students had a really nasty cold.
I picked up a pen that the student had been using and while deep in thought realised that I had put the germ covered pen into my mouth

I didn't catch the cold!!

? oh I wondered what you meant for a moment then realised. Mum has never tasted Coke either sort in her life!

When I was a medical student sitting in on a GP surgery the GP did a smear and carrying the speculum to the sink dropped some vaginal discharge onto my leather handbag!!! How hideous is that! I scrubbed it clean but it put me off the bag for ever!!

Jane I would not have said anything either, because she may have not done a good haircut otherwise! you can always wash your hair later.Pretty yukky though.

I felt I had to wash my hair but what a waste of all the nice waves etc that I'd just paid for.

When we were holidaying at Wells-next-the-sea last summer, there was a greengrocer with fruit and veg on display outside. I remarked on how luscious the strawberries looked, and was about to go in and buy some, until I saw a passing woman pick one up, put it right up touching her nose, sniffed it, then put it back and walked on. It set me wondering how often people do that when stuff is outside a shop on display.

When I was shopping in Morrisons a woman was squeezing all the unwrapped loaves of tiger bread. I couldn't stop myself from telling her off. I complained to customer services as well.

Unbelievable !!
I'm sure my hairdresser of 15yrs wouldn't have done that. If she had, I'd have had to comment.

It's not just produce on display outside a shop, though, is it number? There is so much unwrapped stuff inside the stores - bread and other baked goods, fruit and veg, the salad bar, pick 'n' mix. Fruit and veg can be washed, but bread and prepared salad mixes or sweets can't.

But then, are we all becoming overly afraid of bacteria being transferred in this way? There's no avoiding germs - they're everywhere, on everything that people may have touched before, not just food. Seats on public transport, door handles, newspapers and magazines, library books, ATM machines, coins and banknotes. The list just goes on. Not worth worrying about [shrug]

It would not have been the germs that offended me but the slime in my hair - yuckety yuk!

Is it just me,or do some young people not use tissues these days? I'm regularly driven mad by someone sniffing with a runny nose, with no sign of a hanky. I've even been known to move seats on a train when the snuffling got too much to bear!

That is pretty horrible. In hairdressers I'm also wondering about the scissors/haircombs/brushes they use. Wonder if they have enough as not to share between clients ?

I must be unusually stroppy...I wouldn't have hesitated to ask for my hair to be shampooed again at the salon! That's just disgusting. Thank God my lovely hairdresser knows how and when to use a tissue

At the supermarket bakery I was having trouble opening a polythene bag to put my fresh bread rolls in. The manager "helped" me by blowing in the bag to open it up!

I once watched a young assistant in a shop serving loose bacon. She licked her fingers to separate the slices!! This wasn't in one of the major supermarkets by the way. However I recently saw a small child cough all over the unwrapped bread in Marks and Spencer. The assistant saw it happen and I'm hoping she removed the bread.
