I signed one days ago. I see the propaganda is already out as to why this shouldn't be made generally available.

Interesting article, Little, thank you for sharing. The consultant says, "I think the vaccination should be given to everyone from babies to students ... My children were not eligible for B because of their age but I vaccinated them anyway."

Vinny Smith, CEO of MRF says “In the light of the unprecedented levels of public interest brought about by the MenB petition we call on the government to urgently examine this vital issue. This petition has done a wonderful job of highlighting the importance of increasing access to the vaccine for children at risk. We know the key to unlocking this is showing whether vaccinating teenagers will stop them acquiring and spreading the disease. Our best hope of eradicating this dreadful disease is by using vaccines to stop the infection from spreading and we need the government to listen and deliver the plan to show the best way to do that.”

I was listening to something about this on the radio the other day and the manufacturer was talking about there being limited supplies of this vaccine.

Yes, but that doesn't mean to say supplies can't be upped. An all out campaign to inoculate all our children and teenagers could save lives.

Where there's a will there's a way.

I'd love to see people-power triumph in this instance. I had a good friend who died from meningitis (don't know what strain) in his 40s. If only we could eradicate this, strain by strain. To me the health of the nation, especially our children, is a far more important issue that voting in or out of the EU.

I had meningitis in the late 1950s when I was 11. I was in a coma for two days and would have died because I wasn't responding to anti-biotics. Fortunately the doctors tried Streptomycin which had a miraculous effect and I recovered unharmed except I think I was far more nervy afterwards.

I don't understand the situation with the vaccine so I will look it up.

Even if this petition leads to smaller changes it will be a step in the right direction to eradicating this awful disease. Thanks to all those who have signed.

Lucky the shortage is temporary. I's because no-one predicted the demand for private vaccinations for children who missed the NHS cutoff.

Parents are learning, as newborns get their first shot, it's increased awareness of the arbitrary NHS cutoff and so people want to protect their older children. Add the bravery of Faye Burdett's parents (and other bereaved families) and the result was public awareness leading to the run on private stocks.

The NHS has sufficient stocks for babies who fall under its predicted qualifying age. The manufacturer expects to replenish its stocks by June. Boots has a waiting list you can sign up - I've put my DGC down.
