I would like to set up a separate email address of my own - at the moment all messages come through the one address to both of us. I am not sure how to do this, so that these messages come only to me on my laptop, whilst retaining the main address as default. Anybody know how to do this?

Could you set up a gmail account? This would be personal to you and accessible on any pc/laptop/tablet. Google how to do it.

I have tried that but it keeps sending confirmations to my existing address!! - not what I wanted!

It's actually pretty difficult to set up a new one without it mailing your existing one for verification or in case you have difficulties and need to reset your password or account name. You could try accepting the Google one and then deleting your existing one. Hotmail has now turned into Outlook but that still needs an alternate address. Once it's been set up though it shouldn't mail your existing one. You should also be able to set up multiple addresses with your internet provider - you just need the main user password to do it and then you can access that address from your laptop.

I set up a gmail account for my DH the other day and had no trouble. I don't recall the setup process asking for an existing email address at any stage, so there were no confirmation emails to his existing one. It just asked me to set a user name ([email protected]) and choose a password. And that was it. The only reason I did it was because he'd bought a new laptop. He always used Google Chrome on his old one, but didn't have a google account - all he had to do on his new laptop was log in to his new gmail account and all his google settings (bookmarks and so on) were automatically imported.
