Glad it turned out well, but how worrying the care home's actions must be. I hope you can steer them in a better direction when things get back to normal, but in the meantime, more worry and stress for you.

What a Horrible experience for you and your Mum. Communication is so important. Hope the home understands that now and your Mum improves.

Kitty They should have rung one or other of her family, but at least they did what they should medical wise.

This is really bad practise, having worked in Care Home for many years I can tell you that common practise on admission is to ask family if they want to be contacted under any circumstances or only during day. You would probably be surprised how many do Not want to be contacted during night!

That's sounds really upsetting. I can see that you are visiting her this morning in the home so I'm glad she is a little better but perhaps when its all calmed down you will share your distress with the care home manager!

That's very upsetting kitty as you've been happy with the care home up to now I think. Hope your mum is feeling better today.

I hope you are both recovering well now. When my mum was in residential care I often felt I was rung over trivial matters but at least I was able to decide if I needed to go or not, guided by them. Better safe than sorry.

I am sorry that your year ended like this - what a good thing you went in to visit and spotted the problem! Good news that she is improving - HNY to you and yours!

kitty, have you made it known to the home that you would like to be informed about any changes in your Mum's condition? If you have said only contact in an emergency, then I wonder what the home considers to be an emergency? I have worked in several care homes, and find that you have to be very specific about your wishes. I am glad that your Mum is recovering now, but what an ordeal. Out of hours GP services are terrible. They always told us that a doctor would call within SIX hours! Sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't.

We are happy with the care home generally - the staff are much kinder to Mum than I would be and she was the second resident that morning to require emergency intervention. They do ring me often and did apologise for missing ringing me.

I have spent 7 hours at the hospital today, initially as I thought Mum was about to die and then keeping a check on the staff who were just inefficient and hopeless - there seemed to be no management structure at all. I was so disappointed, as I keep telling people that the NHS is wonderful.
