I hope this makes you smile

With Christmas approaching, I thought perhaps you might like to share this with me.
As you know, I ran a club for people with learning disabilities for some years, and Christmas was always a special time for us, we progressed as we grew, from musical chairs, to discos, and then inviting friends, with food provided, and this particular Christmas I thought that perhaps we might try something different. I asked the members if they would like me to approach the Salvation Army Band to come and play some carols for us. They all know the words to Christmas carols, and enjoyed singing them, so it was agreed that we should do that, invite families friends, and anyone else. I think I should point out here, that we were very much a youth club, with the usual boyfriend/girlfriend, heartbreaks, tears, siblings having babies, getting married, or whatever the order was. We had to watch what was going on behind the curtains on the stage, and how long the refreshments in the kitchen were taking. However, we had one young man who although we knew was desperate to get married, we never had any problems with him at Club, he would sit and happily play the records (yes that long ago!).
So, Christmas party, food all arranged, visitors comfortably seated, members likewise, band in position and we are all quiet. The Captain opens his bible, and quietly asks “What is the first thing we think of, when we think of Christmas” - the necessary pause whilst we all think of this, then – our very quiet young man announces very loudly SEX. Well, after the sharp intake of breath, and the deathly silence which seemed to last forever, the Captain visibly shook himself, and carried on with the never changing story of the Nativity. The evening after that was very successful, with everyone enjoying the food and music.
BUT that is not the end of the story, a few months later shopping in the supermarket we bumped into a member of the band, and stopped for a chat – his passing remarks were “By the way, your Club has quite a reputation you know – we have never known our Captain to be lost for words before – that was a first for us all”.
