mid Summer

I love the lighter evenings but after tomorrow the nights start drawing in again and we're heading back into Winter what an awful thought...
Mid Summer comes way too soon for my liking.

We left for the airport at 4am today, by 4.30 it was so light it could easily have been 4.30 pm.

Just about to board flight to Athens so I suspect it will be a tad warmer than here.

I totally agree tanith, pessimistic DH has just said about the nights drawing in as if we're plunging downhill into darkness, depressing bloke.

I'm definitely a warm weather person so I don't need him to rub it in!

Have a lovely holiday, baubles! It was so light here in Fife last night at about 10.30 - a sort of 'golden' light. DH sighed and said, "Well, the nights will be drawing in again now....." Must be a man thing loopylou!

I'm with you there tanith - midsummer always seems to be here just as summer has started. I want the 'light till nearly 10.00' evenings to last until at least mid-August. No, scratch that, I want them all the year round. Ah wouldn't it be luvverly

I too love the long days and short, light nights. It makes getting up for work at 03.30 much better. By the time I get to work it is daylight, and all the birds are singing. Yesterday morning, the bats who lodge in my roof were circling around, getting ready to go to bed! I love the summer.

The thought of the nights 'drawing in' is depressing me as well as the men. The weather has been so disappointing so far, one day warm, then a chilly one, or a wet muggy day! Not much chance to wear summer clothes, in fact my friend is still wearing boots!
Just one warm,sunny month would be a bonus . please.

No it isn't just a man thing. I think the same thing every year - midsummer, and then we start the slippery slope towards shorter evenings and the dreaded C time. I'm definitely a glass half empty person, but on holiday in Northumberland at the moment I have to say I marvelled at the glow still in the sky at nearly 11 last night. So happy midsummer to everyone, and let's all have a full glass of something nice

Love everything about this time of year. Doors open - the occasional baby bird walking in!!! then panicking - garden beginning to look at it's best, grasses on our walks at their best. Trees glorious. Everything wonderful.

Midsummer's Day is actually on Wednesday, although how it can be 'mid' when it hasn't even started yet here...

Today is my un-birthday

Well, pompa, it's fathers' - and presumably grandfathers' - day today so a good day to have an un-birthday.

First day of summer today (summer equinox) midsummer's day on the 24th, so logically summer will be over by the 28th of June
Tough luck if you blinked and missed it!

As my birthday is on the 21st Dec, and so near Christmas, I always have an unbirthday on the 21st June.

How on earth my mother had me on the 21Dec and my twin sisters on the 28th Dec I'll never know (Spring fever?)

luckily not! The twins are three years younger than me.... Mum insists we were all born early but I can't see that makes any difference!

I remember, many years ago, John Timpson on the Today Programme asked a woman how it happened that all her children had the same birthday in April. The reply, which he should, perhaps, have anticipated was that the couple always celebrated her husband's birthday in July.
