Throughout my life I have experienced dreams where a certain person from my teenage years appears time and time again. I wish he would just go away.hmm

Has anyone else had this experience?

When I was very little I used to have a recurring dream where a crocodile followed me home from school! Now I just get unnerving anxiety dreams about accidents and getting lost when we're about to go away.

My father said he met the same people in his dreams, people he'd never met in his waking world. He said it was like having two lives.

I tend to dream about what's happening in my life at the time.
DD used to have reoccurring dreams about the snowman story. The opening bars of the song would make her a jibbering wreck.

I have very vivid dreams, I think it is connected to the peri-menopause.

But one dream is where I am trying to find a toilet and the only ones I come across are like in an area the old style swimming baths, all white tiles, but all the toilets are out in the open, everyone being able to see you, which I find very upsetting.

On looking it up I found that it is supposed to mean that I am wanting more privacy in my waking life. Maybe not post on here too much then? grin

Interesting post Nankate I have a similar dream at least twice weekly. Only it is a female. She was what I considered my best friend until I was in my late twenties. I realise it was a one sided selfish relationship. I find myself on holiday, back in various stages of my chikdhood, teenage years and early married life. She always makes me angry. I remember locations, emotions and conversations. Deep unresolved issues I think!!!

Oh, Ruby, I have similar toilet dreams! Generally after a pub quiz when I've been drinking beer late (full bladeritis!)

I dream whole film scripts, DH says I should write them down. Last night the dream was a story to rival Narnia.

feetlebaum Wed 11-Feb-15 12:32:03

@Ruby - I've had similar dreams - only in mine I am sitting on the damn thing when I realise that I am out in the open where everybody can see me! Nightmare...

Is it an ex NanKate?
In which case you could just be having nice memories. Or not I suppose.

Or is it someone you would definitely rather you didnt remember?
In which case you might want to share your dreams and feelings about him, with someone.

My mum used to have a regular dream where she was walking along the road wearing only a vest.!

NanKate Wed 11-Feb-15 16:59:56

Yes it is an ex Soontobe. Very relieved I did not end up with him, he was cruel and unkind. I must have been mad to be so besotted.

I hear from his partner once a year at Christmas and it makes me realise how fortunate I am to have such a lovely DH, she's welcome to him. Just wish he would leave my dreams, which only come once or twice a year now.

I have a couple of recurring dreams. One where I am in an unfamiliar place at night and can't find my way home. When I try to use my phone it won't work and when I find a phone box it is always out of order confused . Another recurring dream is where I am out in a social situation and put my handbag down, then can't find it. I can feel panic rising and ask everyone I see if they have seen my bag. Insecure? moi? grin Falcon - I used to have a dream as a child where I went into the sweet shop across the road wearing only my vest and when I ordered my sweets I had no money to pay!

feetlebaum Wed 11-Feb-15 17:47:09

@KatyK - Your dreams sound like those I used to have in which I was impossibly late for an engagement (as a musician), and didn't have my instruments or the necessary clothing - oddly, I only started to have those dreams after I had left the music business altogether!

I used to dream quite often about a nice ex blush
It happened so often, I thought I had better own up to my husband. Who thankfully, was quite ok about it.

I think that if you are only now dreaming about him once or twice a year, then that is to be expected.

Dreams are weird aren't they? It took me 10 years before I ever dreamed about any of my kids!

soontobe Wed 11-Feb-15 17:53:11

ex boyfriend I should have put there.

TriciaF Wed 11-Feb-15 18:00:35

KatyK - the dream about the lost handbag - that's one of my recurring dreams. I looked it up and it says fear of losing your identity.
I had the dream last Sat. night, and it ended with me finding eldest son's
shoulder bag. I can't work that one out!

KatyK Wed 11-Feb-15 18:10:02

It's strange how some of us have the same ones! Fear of losing my identity certainly rings true with some of the events in my life the past few years shock

Falconbird Wed 11-Feb-15 19:35:43

I occasionally have the toilet dream where I'm desperately trying to find a loo but they are all really weird, they either have no door or only a flimsy curtain.

Rubylady - the toilet in one of my dreams was in a swimming bath in Wales - miles from where I live and I was trying to go to the loo and a Welsh man shouted for all the swimmers to stop watching me!!!! shock

Is there something wrong with me? I do not dream. At least, I do not remember dreaming. The last dream I remember, from years ago involved me standing on a bridge, overlooking a motorway and watching a car crash into a way on. The dreadful realisation dawned that the car belonged to my SiL and she and all her family were going on holiday. They were all killed. It was horrible.

hildajenniJ Wed 11-Feb-15 19:43:42

Should read WAGON . Silly hudl.

There must be some profound meaning to the toilet dream. I have it quite often and I am sitting there wondering how "to exit " while all these people are talking to me or just carrying on what they are doing. I have been told by others over the years that they have the same one. My other frequent one is being pregnant again in later life, probably because I always wanted another child.I have two.

When I was a kid I used to dream that my feet got stuck to the ground as I was crossing the road, and I'd wake up as the lorry hit me.

A couple of years ago I was on Metronidazole, which causes surreal dreams. Some of those were quite good fun.

Elegran Wed 11-Feb-15 22:21:17

Dreaming of flying is supposed to represent sexuality. I used to dream of flying when I was in my early teens so maybe it is true - but at the time it felt more as though it represented freedom and the ability to go where I wished and do what I wanted.

I reckon that dreams are ways of reviewing the things that are bothering you at the time and making sense of them. The "stories" are symbolic ones. It is way you feel about the events in your dream while they are happening that give the you the meaning.

The toilet-in-public dreams probably mean a secret fear of having your weaknesses and imperfections revealed. A lot of people seem to have them.

I dream vividly and sometimes have really upsetting dreams where I wake up feeling afraid. This happened a few weeks ago and I had about 3 in the one week. On awakening I could remember them vividly and they stayed with me all day. Now, I can't remember what they were about but I can still recall the feeling of upset and fear.

I have always had spectacular dreams, some recurring and, on at least one occasion, a serial dream where there was a new episode each night for an entire week. To my disappointment, I never dreamed the finale. However, I am currently using nicotine patches with a view to giving up smoking, again, and the dreams are beyond description. The last one involved loads of computers, spilt chicken stock, someone wanting to print out a seed catalogue, my dead parents, a gazebo, a lecture on the inadequacy of the Kalashnikov as a sniper weapon and a very loud goat… Better than an acid trip!
