What does 2015 hold in store for you?

I know most of the future is an unknown but, in my case, I expect not to have any more DGC and to lose my mum! As we have 8 grandchildren already, I am happy to stick grin

Mum is really poorly but fighting to the end and we are not surprised to find she is still with us at the start of 2015. I'm not sure how I will feel when mum dies - most of you have heard about our relationship and the disruption she has caused to our wider family - but with her death will come the end of any chance of a good relationship with her.

Something I didn't expect was for DH to bring me Buck's Fizz in bed! wine

Thinking of you, and hoping it will indeed be an excellent year- even if your mum's time comes. And of course if the idiot turns around (but they rarely do.... 'our idiot' in Spain will never repay the (large) sum of money he fraudulently borrowed from us- it really stings, and I am at times tempted to hire a hit man to teach him a lesson (i'd never do of course)- but the best thing is that our daughter has truly turned the page and we are shot of him. So we have to let the anger... and the money- go- in the knowledge he will become a very sad old man with nobody, which is what he truly deserves ***

Bonne Année- onwards for forwards x

kitty I also have spoken about my mother and me on here. I didn't know how I would feel but it was only regret that we didn't have a good relationship. It wasn't relief which I thought I might feel,it was sadness but not overwhelming. I won't have more GC either and as oldest is 16 probably won't see GGC. My DH is temporarily off Meds for his Alzheimer's but I hope an alternative will be started soon and we can maintain the status quo.and for me I hope for good health to look after him. I really wish you well in the difficult days to come- living in trepidation of the phone ringing,we have all been there.

Teetime Thu 01-Jan-15 09:09:08

kitty you know that I empathise about your Mum and that you and I have talked about our similarities in that relationship. My Mother died 12 years ago and I never had any explanation for her behaviour and I never plucked up the courage to have it out with her. I thought her death would release me from the anxieties she caused but she's still there nagging away inside my head. If when your Mums time comes you need someone to listen who understands I'm here for you.

I hope things improve with your family situation. All I can say is knowing you a little I think it must be fantastic to have you as a Mum and Grandmother. I love your sense of humour and thank God you have it.

Best wishes for 2015 xxxflowers

Nelliemoser Thu 01-Jan-15 10:15:13

Take care Kitty. Whenever the inevitable happens, there will be naturally be regrets for you over what appears to have been a difficult relationship. But don't start thinking it's your fault.

Some people are just difficult and trying to make sense of what has gone is probably pointless.

There are things my mother did, or rather did not do. when I was young that still leaves me angry as it seriously affected my confidence and self esteem for years, nothing outright abusive, more her attitudes to a lot of things.

IMO it's best not to really pursue what has happened at the point when it's far a too late for anything to change. (((hugs)))

Lona Thu 01-Jan-15 10:21:23

kitty We will all be here for you too flowers but your humour will help you to cope. xx

granjura You seem to be in a similar position to me. Our idiot will be disposed of (legally!) this year, and no one will be repaid the vast sums of money.

I've had several years to come to terms with the situation and I'm determined that 2015 will be a turning point.

kittylester Thu 01-Jan-15 10:25:32

Thank you all for your kind words!! Isn't it strange how many of us have had 'funny' mothers!

I really started this thread to ask what people have going on in this year! I know Tee time has at least one wedding coming up along with other less pleasant stuff to contend with and I know Mishap has another DGC to prepare for. Do I remember that you have too nellie?

Is anyone retiring, starting a new career, volunteering for something interesting?

I know lots of people are already facing huge challenges and I am sure lots more of us will before the end of the year!

Agus Thu 01-Jan-15 10:53:02

kitty I know it's not about comparison re your mum but unlike her you are the lucky one to have loving relationships with your own DC, all,of them plus all these DGC who adore their granny. Most importantly, you have a strong loving marriage and not many people have a loving DH who would care enough to serve them Buck's Fizz in bed.

You may never know what your mum's unhappiness was about but whatever caused it, it wasn't YOU.

Now, have another one, you are amongst friends and we won't tell. grin

Don't know what is ahead for us in 2015, just hoping DH and I won't be dealing with anymore health issues. If we do though, we will deal with anything we have to. C'est la vie.

kittylester Thu 01-Jan-15 11:14:34

Thank you Agus.

I hope you don't have anything untoward to deal with. In fact, I hope that none of us do! smile But, if we do, we've got GN for support.

Granjura, I think I've probably mentioned before that DH had a couple of really 'bad lads' as patients. They came regularly, with their Mum, for check ups and were very respectful. Once they heard about someone who had 'taken' some money from DH and offered to sort it! DH declined. Unfortunately, they both came to sticky ends but I would quite like them around to sort out our Idiot and yours! grin In fact, thinking about it, you might have either taught them or some of their very many children.

Mishap Thu 01-Jan-15 11:25:54

Kitty - if your Mum dies this year, as is expected, there is no need to feel guilt. I have been in this situation, with a difficult mother, but I have come to terms with it. She was what she was, and that is simply a fact of life with no baggage attached. I do not miss her, and can say that without guilt, as it is an honest statement. I organised her care to the best of my ability, and that is all that could be done.

A lot of our parents were shaped by a Victorian type upbringing by their parents and then went through the war. For many women these times were frustrating to their ambitions and this very often shaped how they behaved and showed itself in ambivalent relationships with their children.

It is not your problem or your fault - it is simply what came your way. I am sure that you do your best for her and you can do not more. You do not have to pretend that all was well. It is fine to acknowledge that.

My aims for 2015 are:
- to get better and stop being a total pain in the rear for all my dear kind family and friends
- to have a new GC arrive safely
- to keep the creaking OH going as best I may

Fingers crossed! - and happy New Year to all.

ginny Thu 01-Jan-15 11:44:54

Main thing we are looking forward to is our youngest daughters wedding in April.

We are also aiming to use our touring caravan more this year. Hoping to go to Normandy, Northumberland and Cornwall . Also all our family enjoy camping and have said they would like to have a few big family camps.

I am particularly looking forward to being able to partake in longer walks now that I have had both my knees replaced and maybe getting back to 'Zumba Gold '.

whitewave Thu 01-Jan-15 11:47:44

I shall be 3 stone lighter and have smooth dewy skin.

My garden will be paradise, and my house neat as a pin and smelling of polish.

POGS Thu 01-Jan-15 12:01:49

Kitty

I don't know what's coming this year but I hope it's better than last year . You know what I mean.

Having suffered my DD's divorce I don't want another wedding this yearyear, thank you very much. grin

I sure as heck don't want another GC, thank you very much. grin

Time has proven to be a healer after my father died. smile

All our health issues are levelling somewhat, fingers crossed confused

So all in all , all I look forward to is a year where the only problem is the washing machine breaks down, again. angry

Happy New Year to all.

May you all find good friendship, love of your family and peace in your hearts. X

Charleygirl Thu 01-Jan-15 12:17:43

I do not want another year where I feel that I am standing at the front door on a regular basis apparently handing out money. So much fell apart or broke down last year that I was beginning to despair.

My house will have the minimalist look and always look clean and tidy. Nothing will ever be out of place and I will not be putting off for tomorrow what can be done today.

I am going to come to grips with a word with which I am not familiar- filing.

Happy New Year everybody.

kittylester Thu 01-Jan-15 12:18:38

POGS - I'm with you on most of those. Our health is ok but I live in fear of that not continuing!

Happy New year to you and yours! flowers

kittylester Thu 01-Jan-15 12:19:17

You and me both Whitewave grin

tanith Thu 01-Jan-15 12:36:36

A first GGC due in July

My DH retires in June

My dear Grandson's wife to have a brain surgery soon everyone has everything crossed she will come through it safely and unharmed and can resume the active happy life they had planned..

I will overcome my anxiety and join in more.. so all in all I am hoping for no more health scares and a safe delivery of a precious child..

I also hope to get to see my overseas grandson a couple of times too..

HAPPY NEW YEAR GRANSNETTERS.. smile

granjura Thu 01-Jan-15 12:50:25

ooohhhh Kitty, I probably did- could name possible culprits lol.

I think the best revenge for DD2 is to move on and become very successful, both in her job and personally, and she's well on her way there. And for us to rise, rise, and rise again above his fraudulent ways and kiss good bye the money. He is just not worth it- and we are so well rid.

For us, the most exciting thing to look forward to is having the GCs staying this Summer on their own for the first time hopefully- but if that can't happen (really difficult for parents to let go due to severe allergies, and I do so understand) then maybe next year.

A couple of nice holidays planned too, 1 booked in the Swiss Alps, at a spa- and another in South Sicily with sil and bil. And finally, after 5 years here- getting the second bathroom organised and the 'guest' quarters decorated- so we can really enjoy having more friends and relatives to stay.

rosesarered Thu 01-Jan-15 17:16:35

Since one would have to be clairvoyant to know what 2015 holds for us, this is a hard one to answer. All I can say is that I hope it holds 'health wealth and happiness' for ourselves and our family and to all Gransnetters too.

grannyactivist Thu 01-Jan-15 18:06:38

Like kitty I shall be surprised if my mother, who has been quite ill recently, makes it through 2015 and so I have made a decision to spend a little less time with my grandchildren this year and more time visiting my mum and siblings who all live several hours' drive from me. My husband and I are also planning to visit our daughter in New Zealand this year - for the first time. I am very excited about that.

Katek Thu 01-Jan-15 18:09:22

I'm best person at my best friend's same sex wedding in May so that's very exciting. We have a new gc due in next four weeks - so much looking forward to his safe arrival. DH and I are happily perusing all the holiday offers looking for another cruise this year. So far the good is outweighing the bad! Will that continue I ask.........?!?

rubysong Fri 02-Jan-15 00:32:05

My hope for 2015 is to get to the other end of it all in one piece. Also health and happiness for DH and the DCs and DGCs. I hope DS2 completes his degree successfully and finds a good job locally. (He is a mature student.) Then he and GF can think about getting married and starting a family.

flowers for kitty thinking of you at this difficult time.

rubylady Fri 02-Jan-15 02:51:00

My mother phoned me this time last year telling me that she was at death's door and I should go and see her which I did. She wasn't. She is still here and I wouldn't wish her to not be but she has been difficult since we were kids, abusive even and my brother suffers greatly from this. I just think it is what it is and she will never change, certainly not now. So I'm there for my brother and sister now, and for others too if needed. smile

annsixty Fri 02-Jan-15 11:55:07

rubylady my mother told me in 1976, the year my stepfather died that her Dr had told her that "her heart was very tired". She died in 2006!!

numberplease Fri 02-Jan-15 16:13:31

Our year is beginning, on January 22nd, with hubby`s stoma reversal operation. We are both looking forward to this, him because he gets rid of all the inconvenience, and me because, hopefully, I`ll no longer be living in the middle of sh-t city! A minor fact, I know, compared with all the monumental things happening to others, but maybe it will mean a better year all round for our family. Onwards and upwards!
