My deleted thread!!

(34 Posts)

GNHQ - when I started the latest thread to be deleted, I was asking if we could have a better method of showing that threads had been deleted. It was not a thread about a thread about a thread and nor is this one.

Please can we have a better method of letting us know that any thread has been deleted to save people like me from fruitlessly searching around for one on which we had posted a few hours ago.

Look on 'I'm On'

kittylester Sun 14-Dec-14 17:11:10

I know now merlot but can't it also be on 'Active' confused

Ana Sun 14-Dec-14 17:18:44

Yes, that wouldn't help if you hadn't posted on a thread but had been following it with interest.

I think it would be helpful for a deleted discussions heading to remain with a short explanation such as "deleted at OP's request" or "commercial, spam post" or "inappropriate content/ libellous content"

Thanks for bringing the discussion back. Kittylester

kitty I think that's something we'd have to discuss when we're all back at GNHQ in the week, so will bring it up with everyone then.

I did leave my post up about the thread being deleted for the better part of an hour (much longer than we would usually) so I hoped most people with an interest would see it. While it obviously wasn't your intention, subsequent posts meant it did turn into a thread about the previous two threads - and there wouldn't be much point in us deleting them if they were simply to be rehashed on the next one.

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 14-Dec-14 17:27:46

...and actually, come to think of it - I was sure that deleted threads actually showed up (with the reason for deletion) in active conversations until they were eventually bumped off of active. Will have to check that out tomorrow hmm

kittylester Sun 14-Dec-14 17:28:50

Thank you Lucy. You have made my point for me really. If we are busy an hour really isn't long enough. I was making a chocolate log and a gallon of bread sauce for goodness sake! grin

Ana Sun 14-Dec-14 17:39:53

In reply to Lucy's second post, deleted threads don't stay on Active until they're bumped off, or Kitty's would still be there now. They just disappear...

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 14-Dec-14 17:41:38

Ana - that's what I meant. I'm sure they did until now, but they obviously aren't at the moment. Something we need to look into in case there's a tech problem.

Ana Sun 14-Dec-14 17:43:41

I don't recall them ever staying on Active, but of course I could be wrong! grin

Lona Sun 14-Dec-14 18:34:18

No, I don't think they stayed on Active either. (You're never wrong Ana ) tchgrin

Ana Sun 14-Dec-14 18:37:46

I think you're confusing me with someone else, Lona...tchgrin

thatbags Sun 14-Dec-14 21:10:12

I recall them staying somewhere for a while. Couldn't say whether it was on Active or somewhere else though.

thatbags Sun 14-Dec-14 21:10:55

But it is quite a long time since they behaved like that.

I am prepared to accept GNHQ's dictum on "threads about threads" but where then can one discuss areas and topics such as this?
Expecting a thread to be deleted is like the feeling you get when a snowball is aimed at the back of your head!

Ana Sun 14-Dec-14 21:38:33

They used to give the information about deleted threads on the Forum index (if you could remember which topic it was posted on!) but not now.

Nelliemoser Sun 14-Dec-14 22:06:10

I also think a note naming the thread with a little more explanation of the reason for deletion would help.

Ceesnan Mon 15-Dec-14 06:36:16

I was wondering what GNHQ term as a personal attack? Some threads have been deleted for this reason, yet others - which seem to me to be positively oozing with vitriol, are allowed to stay.

POGS Mon 15-Dec-14 08:57:52

Am I allowed to ask which thread has been deleted. ?

thatbags Mon 15-Dec-14 10:43:54

Have PM-ed you, pogs, rather than stoke a sputtering fire ;)

POGS Mon 15-Dec-14 11:05:28

that bags

Thanks

That is no use. People go away for various lengths of time - overnight, for a few days, maybe - then want to see what has happened in a thread that interested them.

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 15-Dec-14 16:07:46

FarNorth - we'll be talking about the best way to get around this. We're not sure exactly what that is yet though. Leaving a message on the post for a short while is what we've always done and if a thread needs deleting, it generally needs deleting sooner rather than later! We'll need to have a chat at HQ about it before we change anything.
