I agree re Blinded by The Light. Sounds like 'wrapped up like a deuce you know a roaner in the night' Lots of the Bee Gees stuff too - I love the music but have no clue what they are saying half the time.

Years ago when DD was about 5/6 she insisted that the Desmond Dekka song The Israelites was The Ears are alive. She sang it all the time and refused to believe me [at that age!] Should have known there would be trouble ahead.

When DD2 was small she sang 'look at me I'm Sandra Dee, lousy whisper ginity . Even when we asked her to sing it again howling with laughter, she obliged, word for word.

Ah the world of the 'mondegreen' - the misheard words. With the lousy diction and sloppy word writing of the post-1950s song it comes as no surprise...

I'm assuming that a deuce is some kind of car in America (remember the Beach Boys did 'little deuce coupe, you know what I'm like). A runner - maybe a race? A delivery?

I once asked a friend what a certain song was and started singing it: cherry pie, cherry pie, no he can't see my (then had no idea at all); it turned out to be Pokerface by Lady Gaga and should have been 'Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face'

I got it wrong on every level and not even a mention of cherry pies anywhere

The Stranglers Golden Brown, texture like sun....I always thought the next line was Lays me down with my mancheros. Never questioned what a manchero was. Then a friend pointed out that it was Lays me down, with my mind she runs. I like my version better.

And when I was 3, I fitted my little pal's name into a Sunday School hymn. Apparently I used to sing Ronnie Molar, Ronnie Molar, my cup's full of Ronnie Molar.
