Odd addictions

Someone I worked with was seriously addicted to one of those nasal sprays (not the sniffy Vick one). Apparently if you use them too often they start to have the opposite effect and when you stop you feel incredibly bunged up. I suggested to her that she tried to break the habit whilst on holiday, she said that the "coming off" was so bad it would have ruined her holiday!

When pregnant, a friend was addicted to sucking a wet flannel. She always had one secreted in her bag and would disappear to the loo for a fix!

About 10 years ago I was seriously addicted to crunching raw carrots.
I used to think about them walking home from work, I remember.
After a while the palms of my hands turned orange, though whether from eating them or just because I peeled so many, I never found out.
At least it was a fairly healthy habit and boy, could I see in the dark!

I know someone who has a 'thing' about used party poppers. Any 'do' she is at where they have these she goes around picking up all the used ones and sniffing them!

There were two sisters on This Morning last week (in their 50s). One eats candles on a daily basis and has done so for years and the other one eats books - she only eats old books. She tears the pages into strips and eats them.

Well it was very odd!

shysal the flannel story has brought back a childhood memory which I had forgotten - sitting in the bath and sucking the flannel when I was a child! I did grow out of the habit though!

Reading about the lady who eats candles reminded me of when I was about 10 years old, I used to chew wax. I can`t remember where it came from, but it was red, and I loved chewing it and getting it soft, maybe it was because my mother would never allow us to have chewing gum? I also liked treading on tar bubbles in the road in hot weather. My SIL, when pregnant, used to eat coal!

Mine when I was a child was licking the strip of a match box where the matches had been struck. No idea why but it tasted good at the time.

A friend of DD3 ate new bath sponges when she was pregnant!

I have never eaten anything strange[apart from peanut butter once!]However, like numberplease when a child I used to love sticking fingers into soft tar bubbles in the road outside our house. It was so pleasurable that it became almost a compulsion.Also, doing the same to the newly whitewashed and rather bubbly wall in my Grandma's outside loo. I got into real trouble about that [I was only 7] as bits of plaster then littered the floor like snow. I remember the horrible guilt.

Marmalade and white bread sandwiches. Cannot buy white bread or I just eat the loaf! Salivating at the thought!

Sue my sink could do with a quick drubbing, fancy coming over with your Vim.

My hands are extremely clean because I have a compulsion to keep washing them for some reason. It's called O.C.D. I think.

Stroking the skins of Aubergines! I often do this in supermarkets. They feel just so wonderfully smooth. #runsandhidesinshame.

Nellie, for me it is stroking conkers fresh out of their casing, but I have never considered it odd!

NanKate now Vim - in the days when I used Vim on an old stone sink I was pregnant and was cleaning it several times a day- loved the smell of Vim but my hands were awful. I love the smell of cleaning fluids but now use Sainsbury's own kitchen cleaner with bleach - that's me knocking on you door with my microfiber cloth. Is the kettle on I've brought cake [cake]

Once you have cleaned the sink, and all the wash basins you are welcome to a nice cup of tea and a piece of my your cake.

If it's near lunchtime when you arrive we could instead have a glass of and then get Penstemmon to bring round some nice soft bread and I will provide the Brie.

I can feel a party coming on.
