To be behatted or not

And Port Meadow floods every year, in parts. I had an allotment on it. I'm just wondering where this picture was taken (last one in the series) and I think I can guess.

I think the media have taken to showing areas that flood anyway which makes it seem a lot worse than it is. The other day there was a report of a caravan site which had been flooded but all the caravans were on floats so there was no damage to them. The fact that they were on floats suggests that this site floods regularly so the owner is prepared. It that's the case then this isn't really news or a sign that the flooding is worse this year.

Maybe she has just come from the hairdressers and doesn't want to ruin her hairdo?

I never wear a hat! Can't stand them. DGD to her mothers despair seems to take after me!

Behatted or not, I'm loving the mac.

jeni I tend to get headaches when I wear a hat. I can manage a fascinator thing for weddings and did have a black, very light straw hat for funerals but I must have left that somewhere. I have got a woolly tea cosy and do feel the cold, but I can't wear it for very long.

Those macs very common around here, like the rain! I don't think I've seen one that colour though.

It never ceases to surprise me how many men will stride about in all weathers without any sort of protection from the elements. DH would never use an umbrella. He will wear a woolly hat in a downpour, but it usually ends up sodden - as does his head!

At the risk of repeating myself...............which I often do..............living in deepest, dampest Herefordshire means no one give a flying ferret what we look like. Its wall to wall mud here so its wellies, mud covered baggy waterproofs and hats of the most practical kind. In fact I now possess a woolly bobble one, for when we do get cold dry days, which makes me look as if I've escaped from the looney bin (can one still say that?) but its warm and snuggly and very comforting.

Hilda nothing better than a warm snuggley bobble hat,I have been known to forget to take my hat off when I get home,DS2 compares me to Norah Battey sometimes.
On Friday I treated myself to a furry trapper hat and my ears have been like toast ever since.mr.glamma has a black pull on that makes him look like a burgular but he needs to keep his bauldy head warm this weather.

Anything that covers my ears! I think they must be lower than normal as I do find to hard to get a hat that completely covers them. Have several ear-bands and an entirely un-glamorous beanie hat.

I'm crocheting beanies for mt dd to give as pressies.

Yus, there is something very liberating about dressing purely for practical reasons. Vanity flies right out of the window and conversations centre upon such things as the merits of 'Gortex' and the different styles of wellie boot. (Fat calves mean I'm better off with what they call yard-boots as worn by certain horsey types). P.S. We do have the odd ocassion for dressing up (Gardening club social or Village Christmas lunch) but even for that one merely digs out ones best non dog haired garments. I actually found myself buying a clothes brush the other day and turned into my Mother by thinking.....'no that does not need to go in the washing machine, a good brush is sufficient'.

Bags- as a child I lived close to Port Meadow. It flooded and froze so often I requested my own skates for Christmas one year. The tufts of grass poking through the ice caused a few spills. My father had an allotment there too.
I still live in Oxfordshire. The water levels are high all around the area today, went for my usual walk this morning wearing a thin waterproof, unzipped, over a thin top with bra and no hat or gloves. I was soon sweating, I just do not feel the cold, find anything covering my ears claustrophobic.

Lucky you, not to feel the cold, shysal. I find I get a headache if I get the wind in my ears (I do have some over-sensitivity in my ears) though I do warm up easily if I'm walking. Usually start out fairly well wrapped, in the most breathable fabrics possible for the weather.

The other lady archer in our archery club (it's a small club) never feels the cold either. It must save a lot on heating bills being like that!

PS I remember flooded fields all around us in Oxfordshire every winter when I lived there. I was there for twenty years.

Nanadog thanks for the link. I actually have an exact copy of the white alpaca hat which I bought for the equivalent of about £3 when we were in Peru about 5 years ago. To date I haven't been brave enough to wear it anywhere other than the garden. Too scared of frightening the neighbours!!

I've ordered a knitting kit for a style I liked the look of - turban and wrist warmers. Any wind - even a warm one - gives me acute earache.
