Pendant/Wrist Alarms

Can’t offer any advice, but thought I’d bump this thread so others will see it and may be able to help.

U have one which I am supposed to wear around my neck. It is so sensitive and one night in bed it must unknowingly got wedged on my body. I was woken up by a fireman on a ladder knocking on my bedroom window.

I went downstairs and there was a paramedic there! They didn't want to break down my front door for entrance because although I have a key safe, I also keep the key on the inside lock. I am partially sighted so have difficulty getting keys in locks.

I pay extra so if I fall in the street the alarm will go off (if I wear it_). It costs nearly £400 a year When worn it goes off frequently and one has to be very quick to reply or a paramedic will be on the doorstep.It is rechargeable and lets you know loudly when it needs to be. All I can find is REhs.

I don’t know any makes but I know my Dad did have a council one and it was a boon. My best friend pays for hers but I can’t ask her as she’s had a massive stoke and can’t verbalise anything understandable

It depends on your parents needs. Alarms differ according to whether the person wearing the alarm is housebound or gets out and about.
I have a GPS personal alarm from Telecom 24 which covers me away from home and also for falls. I find it a comfort, knowing that help is on hand. I have a key safe just in case I was unable to get to the door for medical help. I pay an annual fee of just under £300. I haven't needed to call for assistance so far but they are very understanding when I set it off accidentally.

My neighbour has one on her wrist. She pats £36/month. I’m sorry, I don’t know the brand. Will find out

My mum has a wrist falls alarm from a company called Taking Care . She paid an initial fee and a monthly fee .
She lives in an assisted living flat which provide a pendant . However she has to press the button on the pendant if she needs assistance . She has a key safe as well .

Mine is from the council. The kit was free and the fitting, but I pay a small amount each month. There was no means test although I presume there is some way of supplying them to someone who could not afford it.

First port of call would be the council I think. Mine has some sort of system whereby a smoke alarm also alerts the same central hub and also the fire brigade.

Thank you everyone. Mum and Dad’s council do a financial assessment and they wouldn’t be eligible. I’ll have a look at Taking Care and Telecom 24.
