I can't comment on timing as I've never been involved with a death that needed a P.M.

I too am sorry for your loss, the need for a PM can 'slow things up' a bit.....
The Funeral Directors should be able to advise.

However the last of my elderly relatives did recently and the funeral was held within a week, W Scotland,

The ceremony took quite a different slant on these held in E Scotland , but was equally reverant of the loss .

To answer the OP, it depends on the findings of the PM, but there is no time set on holding a funeral, once the results are known ( if all is fine, and no police procedure needed) then you should be told that you can go ahead and arrange the funeral.Sorry to hear of your loss.

There was a sudden death of a child in my family a few years ago it was a month before we could have the funeral. You don't have to wait till the coroner has released the body before contacting a funeral director, in fact it is useful as the funeral director will also keep in touch with the coroner.

The crem would need all the paperwork to be completed and in their hands at least two working days before the funeral.

Thank you all. My nephew has just phoned to say that the PM showed a heart attack, so they are going to the funeral director now.
I was really wondering how long it might be before the funeral could be held. In our wee village, burials used to be within three or four days of a death, but due to cutbacks, we're usually looking at at least a week, more for a cremation.

Yes I live near Brighton, my friends funeral recently took 3 weeks although that was in a Wealden village, about 10 miles or so from Brighton.

Goodness me ww I live in Kent and the last funeral I attended was 8 days after death.

Thanks once again. Nephew's just phoned & cremation is on 21st.
