Lidl and Aldis have the best stuff in Europe!

We recently got those two supermarkets in the US and they dont always offer the same items here.

Thanks DiscoGran. I bought a machine from a certain supermarket the last time they had them on offer. I had to be quick as they were flying off the shelves!

The new 'Singers' are Singers in name only, so don't beat yourself up for not waiting. The brand was sold out to a Hong Kong holding company, which subsequently acquired two other brands - Pfaff and Husqvarna.

They have nothing like the quality and reliability of the original Singers.

Which model do you have Callistemon?

I am really happy with the Janome that I bought about two years ago - the most basic model. I am involved in a sewing class at present via Zoom and every now and again I have to wait for other members of the group whose fancy (and probably much more expensive) electronic or digitally enhanced models cause "programming" problems.

I'm really enjoying sewing.

Which model do you have Callistemon?

Um, one that came with a free quilting kit (still in the box under the stairs).
I finally sussed out how to thread it. It took 3 minutes not 30 minutes yesterday.

I have completed a few tasks on it, including making face masks.

Callistemon is yours just a dead simple, sew forwards and backwards, no fancy stitchwork, ideal for hemming curtains sort of sewing machine? Before lock down, I watched a demo in John Lewis and she kept saying how simple and easy it was but it looked more like computer than a sewing machine. You had to choose which sort of stitch you wanted, from a range of dozens, before it would even start! I'm looking for one that's as easy as the Singer treadle one my granny had!

The fancy stitches are probably quite simple as I've practised and even I could do them. Just turn a dial.
It's the threading up that's beyond my comprehension!

I still have a Singer hand machine C1930s if all else fails.

Don't waste money on buying one of these Singers as the company who now owns Singer only bought the name and I think they are made in several different factories which means the quality is very variable ranging from bad to awful. Even the bottom of the range Brothers are better.
