No, not at all unreasonable. I think the 10 - 9 curfew is a really good idea.
I like dogs but irresponsible owners leaving poo around beaches (or anywhere) make them unacceptable. You wouldn't believe how many people still hang full doggy bags on hedges around here either.

Dogs have no place on beaches, plenty of other space for them to run around and do what dogs do.

I think a curfew on popular 'leisure' beaches (ie beaches where people take children and generally enjoy the seaside) in the summer months is perfectly acceptable. But I don't think they should be banned from all beaches.

Up here in the frozen NE we have miles and miles of lovely beaches in Durham and Northumberland which are never covered with people just there for a day on the beach, but very popular with walkers (with or without dogs). It would be sad to close them all off to dogs.

Dogs are not allowed on our local beaches during the summer months, but are allowed in winter.

Dogs on a no dogs beach this year. One of them made a huge deposit near us and I went looking for the owner. Each member of the group said it wasn't them but eventually one cleared it up. I explained that dogs were not allowed on that beach but they didn't go and neither did the 2 dogs. There was no one supervising the beach so no one to complain to.

I live near a very large beach. Massive.

Dogs are fine on the beach provided their poops are dealt with quickly and efficiently

I don't walk mine there very often due to the vile stench of BBQs, loud music and screaming children.

I agree that dog poo is disgusting wherever. It doesn't take a lot to bag it up quickly.
On our beaches there are designated dog areas in the summer.

Our local beaches are closed to dogs during the summer months, and I am surprised that BBQs are allowed. Rarely go on the beaches as the parking charges are colossal.

Barmeyoldbat, I think you had better take a look at the mess humans leave to see who is worse!

Visitors who stay in holiday homes and on campsites have no choice other than to take their dogs out with them. I guess if they fancy a day on the beach, dog goes too. Maybe this year we are seeing a lot more.

I agree with MaizieD no dogs at all on beaches used by children. There are many more deserted beach areas which are not used by children and should be ok for dog walking.

I don't think dogs should be allowed on beaches. I remember beaches where there were wardens to stop people coming onto the beach with dogs.

Dog poo being left in the sand is dangerous for children who play there.

I covered dog poo which was sitting on the sand near us with sand.

Perhaps you shouldn't have done this Scissordolly - maybe leave it exposed so people can see it and keep clear / not let their children play near it.

It’s not the dogs that are the problem, it’s irresponsible owners.. People who leave litter, broken bottles, the remains of their lunch, used condoms etc.etc. are as bad if not worse.

quizqueen whilst I agree the mess left can be horrendous, you can’t catch toxocariasis from it.

Dogs are not allowed on any of our local beaches between May and September.

On our beach the dogs are NOT allowed on our beach between May to October there are other beaches in the area that are ‘wilder’ and they can be exercised on those but not the main beach

I'd like to see responsible people on beaches. Ones who think of others besides themselves. Then the beaches would be kept clean and safe.

However, there are irresponsible people who leave, not only dog poo, but human poo / soiled nappies / used tampons and soiled sanitary towels /bottles (some broken) / cans / takeaway containers and cartons / disposable BBQs / remains of food / condoms / + huge amounts of plastic. I know someone who volunteers to clean up regularly on Polurrian Cove near Mullion here in Cornwall. These are many of the things he finds.

I'll continue to be a responsible dog owner and clean up my pet's poop wherever she does it and put it in the next dog poop bin, whether I am on the Camel trail, coastal walk or beach here in Cornwall.

Well said WOODMOUSE - it’s about time someone pointed out the other litter louts. It’s not the dogs’ it’s the irresponsible owners just as it’s the irresponsible adults, teenagers, etc who leave their filth (and excretions) in public places.

One answer would be to have proper beach patrols. There are enough people out of work to monitor the public’s predilection for antisocial behaviour.
