Anyone watched last night's Channel 5 drama? Quite watchable but very unlikely, like most Channel 5 dramas! Second episode tonight.

Not seen it yet but we have it on the list to watch !

Calendargirl Wed 03-Jun-26 13:36:29

Yes, I watched it.

Thought Denis Lawson’s acting was a bit hammy, and I didn’t recognise Rebecca Front until I saw her name in the cast.

I think it will turn out the usual overwrought Channel 5 drama, but will keeeep watching.

Also puzzled over where I had seen Jimmy before, then remembered he was the vicar in Murder Before Evensong.

Er yes.
Couldn't make sense of it.

I was gripped throughout most of it but the end of the first episode seemed ridiculously over-dramatic and unlikely. However, I'll give it another go.

I have watched two episodes and am really enjoying it. The story line is quite easy to follow and the twists and turns make it really interesting even if a bit far fetched. I would say it is better than the normal channel five drama.

I'm really enjoying it

Agree it is very unrealistic, but I'm watching and really enjoying it, probably due to the talented cast! (And I'm castigating myself before anyone else jumps in, but I was so shocked by Rebecca Front that I googled her to see if she was ill, i.e. on steroids. Apparently not.)

Hooked!

I'm really enjoying it too, but I'm another one who just didn't recognise Rebecca Front at first.

I'm enjoying it too, but agree some of it is a bit far fetched. I too was surprised by Rebecca Front's appearance - she does look very different.

She seems to have put on a lot of weight. I didn't recognise her either until I looked up the cast on the Internet.

Well, that’s the end of ‘The Fortune’.

Yet another Channel 5 drama that you end up wondering why you wasted 4 hours on it.

Why did Paula Wilcox have that silly hat on at the end?

What happened to the taxi man/dad? Did he just die also, or did Amanda keep in touch with him?

How did that cafe keep going? The first episode, they were flat out preparing the most wonderful cooked breakfasts that customers had to wait ages to be served, later on, Sandy seemed to be running the job single-handed, as Jimmy the chef was absent making dodgy phone calls and Amanda the only waitress was flying round the countryside in a borrowed car.

What a load of twaddle, but I stuck with it to the bitter end.

Eleanor Tomlinson seems to have accepted inferior roles since Poldark, she was also in that nonsense that passed for a remake of The Forsytes,

But like the rest of us, it pays the bills I suppose.

I've just finished watching this. To be fair Calendargirl, after fast forwarding all the adverts, it didn't take 4 hours!

The ending was abrupt. It was like "and they all lived happily ever after" apart from the poor mother (Paula Wilcox). Did the local news station follow up her disappearance? No.

I felt sorry for little Luke, often expecting his invisible grandparents to pick him up from school, only for his mother to turn up and then ignore him while she was on the phone. Then being dumped in the cafe with a glass of orange juice while she disappeared off on a train or in a taxi.

Poor Stephen Thompkinson in a body bag, no Police involvement.

Good acting, propping up a thin story.
