Maremia

Are there adverts shown on GB News?

I know they are boycotted bysome of the big companies.

Which is why it needs to be funded by British taxpayers, at least we will have one media channel that is not being run by foreign billionaires.

Oreo Mon 29-Jun-26 18:08:00

It can be called news because the news is reported on it. If it wasn’t then they wouldn’t be able to call it that. Most people watching it, especially the breakfast programmes are those who like a mix of news and entertainment and used to watch either the BBC breakfast with Charlie and Naga or Good Morning on ITV.All very similar types of programmes.AsI said earlier, nobody here is forced to watch anything they dislike but the morning programmes on GB News are very good.

It was reported this month that the BB has lost over 300,000 licence payers in the last year. I would say the BBC would be running at a loss if it did not make people pay for the licence.

AGAA4 Mon 29-Jun-26 16:51:24

None of those foreign owners of GB news have the good of the British people in mind.
Willing to run the programme at a loss? Something worrying about this.

foxie48 Mon 29-Jun-26 16:38:37

OH, it's of note that the only Legatum investor born in the UK is AMc and he now lives in Dubai.

Let your imagination run wild, what do they want from financing GB news? Answers on an energy bill please written in oil.

foxie48 Mon 29-Jun-26 16:34:04

Who owns GB news and is prepared to run it at a loss?

Sir Paul Marshall, right winger with Christian Nationalist tendencies, pro Brexit, anti woke and has money to burn.
Legatum, a private investment firm for billionaires based in Dubai. the main investors are:
Christopher Chandler a billionaire from NZ who made millions asset stripping in Russia during the 90's and who is rumoured to have links to Putin.
Mark Stoleson, here's a quote of what he said about GB news if you think it is unbiased and impartial,
" GB News will provide an opportunity to “change the status quo”, “help shift the national conversation” and demonstrate that “Britain has once again found her voice”.
Alan McCormick, the well known climate change denier with strong financial links to the coal and oil industry
Philip Vassiliou, Dubai based and again with links to fossil fuel energy companies especially UAE

Duh, "resent" not "recent" !!

Maremia Mon 29-Jun-26 15:20:34

It's strange that the company persists despite the economic losses.
There must be something else the owners gain, that make up for that.
What could that be? đŸ€”

foxie48 Mon 29-Jun-26 14:53:48

"it always amazes me how much posters who don’t like it resent it even being there at all" Oreo

I recent it being called a news channel because IMO it isn't a "news channel" it's a propaganda channel. What amazes me is that it is allowed by Ofcom to call itself a news channel. Despite being sanctioned on numerous occasions for breaking the code of conduct with many of those sanctions being considered "significant" Ofcom still hasn't removed it's licence and a fine of ÂŁ100k in October 2024, is peanuts for a company that clearly doesn't need to make a profit as it's made a loss of nearly ÂŁ150 million since it started.

Casdon Mon 29-Jun-26 14:35:32

The best move would have been to change the title, unless of course heated discussion is the aim though Oreo. Its been interesting, anyway.

Oreo Mon 29-Jun-26 14:20:18

I think that was just an unfortunate mistake is all Casdon

Casdon Mon 29-Jun-26 14:08:21

There was something inherently provocative in titling a thread which was inaccurate in what it was praising Oreo, there’s no getting away from that. Had the thread title been accurate, the thread would have died long ago I suspect.

Oreo Mon 29-Jun-26 14:04:01

I don’t think that a thread about a well known right-wing television programme would ever be “lighthearted” on a discussion forum.
Provocative rather than lighthearted perhaps, as it has shown to be.

There was nothing provocative in the title of the thread and why shouldn’t it be deemed lighthearted? It isn’t a serious political discussion it’s talking about a channel we like ( or don’t like in some cases) but it always amazes me how much posters who don’t like it resent it even being there at all.Or how much they claim to know about it since they don’t ever watch it.
There’s so much intolerance, even on a thread about a tv programme/ channel .đŸ€”

NotSpaghetti Mon 29-Jun-26 13:55:43

This is/was a lighthearted thread about posters being pleased that GB News is doing well, and the presenters and programmes they enjoy on it.

The thread title was GB News wins award for Best News Channel for 4th year running,
OP left a statement after that:
I say well done GB News. 👏👏👏👏

Obviously Primrose is feeling light hearted about it but I see no reason why we can't discuss the actual award.
And now we know that it's not even correct.

I see no invitation to discuss what people like about it and which presenters etc - though obviously that seems fine to me. It is a chatty sort of thread in my opinion.

Was it?

I think it was the third annual attempt at a GB News fans gloat. But Hey Ho, these things don’t always work out how one intends.

love0c Mon 29-Jun-26 12:52:28

I am so heartened I am and never have been a 'lefty'!

I am non partisan but it does strike me as 'news' for the angry, home-owning working class. It has tapped into the less educated labyrinths of British society and doing rather well it seems ;)

Not my cup of sencha, daaarling.

Blimey!
That’s non partisan is it?😂

Oreo Mon 29-Jun-26 12:18:44

By doing well I mean that it’s gone from strength to strength in the number of viewers.😃

Is the heat affecting judgement on here? This is/was a lighthearted thread about posters being pleased that GB News is doing well, and the presenters and programmes they enjoy on it.
The lead ballon of the ‘worthy’ soon descended on it as usual.

GB news is not doing well. It is running at a loss owing thousands to it's parent company and others.

No, AGAA4 but GB news regularly reminds people to vote.

There is a huge campaign around it.
They have links and QR codes everywhere. They spend air time on it and send out reminders daily (- and more than dally towards the end of voting period) to anyone who they have contact details of.

Thanks. That explains a lot.
