Outrageous (The Mitford family)

I’ve watched three episodes and I’m loving it.
I’ve read quite a bit about the Mitfords from various sources and it seems to be an accurate portrayal if a little slow at the beginning.
I might binge the rest this evening. 😂

I didn't like it at first but then was drawn in and eventually hooked so that I've binge watched it in between the tennis at Queens.

We watched episode 1 last night and enjoyed it. It’s got the lot - an interesting story, good cast, plenty of humour, impressive settings. And the dresses are to die for.

I’m going to watch this, thanks for letting us know about it. I’ve read the book too, if you mean the huge pale green tome, it took me weeks, but it was fascinating - such an interesting family.

They certainly are a fascinating, unconventional family.

The Daily Mail recently serialised parts of a book detailing Unity Mitford’s obsession with Hitler.

I had forgotten about this new tv series so I’m pleased about the reminder on here.

Has this been on before? I watched something about the Mitfords a few years ago, but don't know if it was this one. They called one of the women 'the bolter' as she'd left her husband. Not much else that might identify it sticks in my mind, but I quite enjoyed it.

I love Jessica’s book ‘Hons and Rebels’ a fascinating account of her and her siblings youth. It has always made me think would we all flourish as individuals as they did if we had also not been formally educated. They were of course privileged and not lacking financial support.

Is the series only on Freeview? I would be very interested to see it.

I read her books as a teenager. Fascinating family, but very privileged, and part of the “bright young things” set, so were not confined as the majority of the population during those extremely tough times.

In fact what was going on in the country hardly seemed to touch them apart from a curiosity and wish to “save” the working man through fascism or communism.

I have watched a few episodes and will see it through. I also read and enjoyed Nancy's books or were they Jessica's?
They are a fascinating family.
I once saw Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire with the Duke, showing a film crew around her house -Chatsworth. She had a cut glass accent with a voice that carried the length of the long hall.

I suspect Downton Abbey owes a lot to Mitford history!

The Pursuit of Love is also available on U. I plan to watch that next.

I did always love the outrageousness of Uncle Matthew in the books - apparently taken from life! ‘Abroad is unutterably bloody and foreigners are fiends.’

And his custom of writing the name of anyone he disliked (usually referred to as a ‘sewer’, on a piece of paper and putting it in a drawer, in the hope that they’d die. 😱😂

In the cottage scene they weren’t supposed to get on the sofas but there was no stopping them. They weren’t allowed to keep their diamanté collars .

I've watched it all and thoroughly enjoyed it. It looks like it's left us hanging for another series. I hope so.
