Any recommendations for a bit of escapism or good nail biting dramas?
Have just watched MISSING on Netflix ..very good with a daughter using her tech savvy skills tries to find her mom who goes missing on a holiday with a new boyfriend…

I don't have Netflix and we recently got rid of Sky so I've added some apps to my tv, I downloaded the STV app and can usually find something to watch on there. There are all types of programmes, some oldies and also newer ones.
Also added the U app, rather than trawl through the tv guide to find the different channels on the freeview they are all in one place.
Record some from Freeview so I can whizz through adverts.

I don't buy TV channels but find plenty to watch on Freeview ones. Lot of free channels where you can watch TV progs and films just have to watch with ads like Freevee.etc.

I've just finished The Crow Girl on Paramount. I was hooked from the start, would recommend.
There will be a second series, soon I hope.

Oh and Cra was excellent.
Also watching The Bear on Disney. It's good , no doubt about it, but I don't think it deserves all the Hoopla its had. A bit, but not all.
Don't tell the DH. He thinks that its unreservedly brilliant !

I'll second the Day of the Jackal and the Tower.
Now watching DI Ray on ITVX- it starts off looking a bit narrow in themes and stories but soon broadens out.
Don't miss Slow Horses.
All GsNetters' other suggestions duly noted .
These threads are😊😊 really helpful.

I wonder if W.Lotus will be the same without the wonderful Jennifer Coolidge. Will watch anyway as very funny.

Not a bit funny, although it has a vague pretention to be, is Ice Cold Murders on Walter Presents 4. Another world-weary policeman (is there any other kind) in Northern Italy. I shall be glad to finish it.

A new series of The White Lotus starting in early Feb I think, may be on Sky?

Crimson River ,Professor T all on Walter presents need to read subtitles. I don't watch the British versions of Professor T or Patience British version of Astrid .

I thought The Day of the Jackal was very good - though very violent. Usually I turn off if a film is violent but Eddie Redmayne was so brilliant in it.

I thought a series called The Tower was very good.

chelseababy Wed 29-Jan-25 12:25:20

Just watched Crá on iplayer (as mentioned above set in Ireland) I enjoyed it and didn't guess whodunit!

We're just getting into North Shore on ITV/ITVX, which stars Joanne Froggatt - two episodes down, 4 more to watch and probably going to binge tomorrow.

Have you tried The Twelve? There are two series, both starring Sam Neill, courtroom dramas that are very involving, especially Series 2.

I'll second The Twelve (series 2). I was hooked.

J52 Tue 28-Jan-25 09:00:13

I’m enjoying White Lies on Ch 4. It’s set in South Africa with some English actors.
Like most of these series a bit of a stretch on reality at times.

Retread

I posted this recommendation for The Breakthrough a few days ago, it is brilliant. (Subtitled).

I enjoyed this. Thanks for the recommendation.

Sparklefizz Tue 28-Jan-25 08:48:19

I can definitely recommend both series of The Twelve on ITVX, and North Shore on ITVX, and also Breakthrough on Netflix.

I thought Departure Season 1 on NF was better than Season 2.

Rainbow1235 Mon 27-Jan-25 21:43:00

Love vera I’m gutted it’s ended but I’m happy to rewatch older episodes

Bea65 Mon 27-Jan-25 20:32:00

Just finished North Shore enjoyed it .. working down recommendations from u all

Ilovedogs22 Mon 27-Jan-25 19:31:20

I'm watching Vera on ITV catch-up
It's brilliant! Lots of episodes & each one is 2hrs long.
So if you like a convincingly acted & well -crafted detective series, then it's well worth a watch. Even her Hat plays the part very well. 😊

Rainbow1235 Mon 27-Jan-25 19:05:43

North shore was brilliant I binged watched in one evening x

Mary59nana Mon 27-Jan-25 17:21:54

Just had a fantastic Sunday binge watch on Netflix....Departure season 1 and 2 highly recommend

Wyllow3 Sat 25-Jan-25 01:06:44

Just watched "Back in Action" Film on Netflix which is a light hearted thriller I'd say very watchable 3 out of 5.

I'm always on the look out for a good thriller that hasn't got horror in or is where there are nasty "psychological" turns.

Quite keen on crime procedural - an old one "Runaway Jury" is best fave on that one.

What is a "best thriller?" I like the Bourne series.

Ad Vitam NetFlix worth a watch
