Watched the first 3 episodes on iPlayer and am hooked.
Totally unfeasible but brilliant.

Yes enjoying this. As it goes along it really reminds me of an American series on Netflix called Monk. Watched no end of Monk. Reasonably short and can be watched individually.

I wasn't sure about this at the start, the whole premise being absolutely ridiculous. How on earth could one twin be mistaken for another when they have completely different skill sets, behaviour, and mannerisms.

However, in the end I didn't care how ridiculous it was. It was so entertaining and I watched the whole lot in two sessions. It was funny and moving and very engaging.

Presumably there must be a second series as the mystery of his brother's disappearance has not been solved.

I liked the music.

I never watch tv programmes like Ludwig but all my family were full of talk about it so I thought "I will give it a try" and much to my amazement I really enjoyed it. Handy to have MrR there to ask questions to if I got a bit confused confused

No, I know that, thank you. It still comes across as ludicrous.

Ludicrous Ludwig!! 😀

Probably, but there is so much depressing drama on TV now that something a bit different, even daft, is welcome.

We're not supposed to take it seriously, Ziplok
It's fiction, not fact, like so much on TV nowadays.

Most of the tv police dramas on tv have much in them which suspend belief.

Ziplok Thu 17-Oct-24 22:05:10

Yet another programme where the trailer made me think “what a load of rubbish” and put me off watching any of it. Far fetched nonsense - as if an identical twin, with no experience of being in the police, could pass himself off as a police officer, let alone the high ranking police officer his brother was. Absurd.

I agree Kitty. 👍

Really loved it. Sort of gentle but not quite.

Margiknot Thu 17-Oct-24 19:19:17

Agree it’s dark in the house. We need to have the room lights off! Perhaps we need a new TV ( or new eyes)!

Allira Thu 17-Oct-24 18:49:44

We don’t find the picture dark at all, are other programmes similar Margiknot and Deeda?

It's very dark in the house where John is staying with Lucy.

TerriBull Thu 17-Oct-24 17:48:48

I've watched two, they're quite good, without being compulsive, I'll watch the rest, bit by bit, they're good infills. I like David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell-Martin.

I'm an avid fan of DM but I couldn't get past the first episode. However, on reading the messages here I'm going to give it another go. You can't all be wrong! 👍

Margiknot Thu 17-Oct-24 14:56:54

Yes it’s too dark to make out what is happening at times! I need to rewatch the beginning of the first episode as I was quite lost at first! I am enjoying it now.

Deedaa Fri 11-Oct-24 23:53:57

My only complaint is that everything seems to be filmed in the dark. No matter where they are I find myself peering at the scene to see whose talking.

I seem to remember Victoria saying that she was introduced to David by Ben Elton, who told her this was the man she was going to marry.

I didn't really like the first episode (just unfeasible without being uproariously funny) but it's possible it's one of those that grows on you - I shall persevere. I do like David Mitchell -one of those rare comics who combines nice person & very funny.

Finished watching episode 6. I really enjoyed it but I must say that credibility was a little strained at times.
Like other posters I liked the guest appearances; Felicity Kendal and Derek Jacobi in particular.

The last episode hinted heavily at the possibility of another series. I don't want to say more in case any GNs have not watched it yet.

Grandmabatty Fri 04-Oct-24 09:34:36

I finished watching it yesterday as I was couch bound. I really enjoyed it. Some excellent actors appeared as guest artistes too. And beautifully set up for the next series

gulligranny Fri 04-Oct-24 09:32:30

DH and I are not great fans of David Mitchell but we thought we'd give this a go as it got such good reviews. We watched two episodes straight off, loved it!

NanKate Wed 02-Oct-24 21:29:13

Just watched last episode. Really enjoyed it. 👍

I loved the background music myself. I thought it was an arrangement of various pieces by Beethoven (hence the 'Ludwig'). I found the first episode great fun. It's all a piece of nonsense.

I recognised bits of Ludwig van Beethoven too, throughout. The boy played an LP with 'The Hymn to Joy' on it at the end of episode one.

I will be watching episode two tonight as I am enjoying it.

It reminds me of Monk too.

Ilovedogs22 Tue 01-Oct-24 19:43:47

David has such a lovely demeanour & appearance; bright as a button too. It's no wonder he managed to bag the glorious Victoria Coren. It's hard to compete with a goddess ladies. 😊

MayBee70 Tue 01-Oct-24 10:51:32

I’m just about to watch another episode; binge watching it but in a slightly more spaced out way. What is has which, imo is the important thing in programmes like this, is a good balance of humour and pathos.
