Does anyone remember Sara & Hoppity? I loved this programme in the early 1960’s. I even called my first born Sara! I saw an old You Tube of this yesterday and oh my goodness I found it a bit creepy but at 5 years old I adored it and never forgotten it. Another favourite was Torchy the Battery Boy. How childrens TV has moved on! I enjoy Peppa Pig and Fireman Sam now watching them with my grandchildren😂

Animal Magic!!!!
I really, really loved that!!!

My brother and I loved FireballXL5 especially the theme song ' I wish I was a spaceman'. I remember Susan Hampshire in What Katy Did. Maybe around the same time as The Singing Ringing Tree?

I read the Katy books back to front and inside out, and over and over.
I didn't know it was on tv, though.

Does anyone remember Mr Pastry?

I do remember Mr Pastry, now that you've mentioned him. But the one I remember most is Muffin the Mule, on a Sunday I think. Mum loved him as well.
One of our boys used to be scared of Bagpuss as he woke up. They used to watch Trumpton, Camberwick Green, The Woodentops, The Herbs, all sorts of lovely programmes.
When we moved here, there was a small piece of wild scrubland that the children called Pogles Wood.
It's still there and I hope it is never built on

Also ‘Billy Bunter’.

Wouldn’t be allowed now, talking about fat people and school bullying.

Which comic had the Bash Street kids?
Desperate Dan?
Minnie the Minx, and Dennis the Menace?

Grannmarie Mon 26-Feb-24 20:02:17

I think the Bash St kids and Minnie the Minx were in the Beano, MissAdventure. Desperate Dan and Dennis the Menace were in the Dandy?

Ah thanks Urmstongran! It used to make me giggle no end. I always loved watching Laurel & Hardy with their slapstick antics too.

MissAdventure Mon 26-Feb-24 20:06:53

Laurel and Hardy.
I love them!
When they end up with a crab in their trousers, and they're on scaffolding. grin

Definitely the Bash Street Kids 😺 and on TV I loved Andy Pandy and Little Weed not Bill n Ben though.
Later I was obsessed with Timeslip !

MissAdventure Mon 26-Feb-24 20:25:00

Bewitched was my favourite programme of all.
I loved Flipper, and Skippy.
Oh, and Casey Jones.

Freya5 Mon 26-Feb-24 20:37:41

I am of the age to remember, Billy Bunter, the Wooden tops, Andy Pandy, Watch with mother, Flowerpot Men, Champion the Wonder Horse, Rin Tin Tin . Lovely memories.

Granmarderby10 Mon 26-Feb-24 21:06:04

Oooh yes I forgot about Skippy ( the bush kangaroo) and Champion the Wonder Horse. I think Pinky and Perky, Tinga And Tucker … anyone? With Katy Kukaburra! and Bewitched and The Munsters were the first TV programmes I remember watching. There were many more family type programmes then too.

Doodle Mon 26-Feb-24 21:19:20

I loved Rag Tag and Bobtail but Andy Pandy was favorite. I loved the Teddy. Wooden tops too with Spot the dog,
Never really like Muffin the Mule.

Same here. I only stopped reading Katy when I knew what the next sentence would be. Such wonderfully vivid characters - could they ever be adequately portrayed on screen?

Grannmarie Mon 26-Feb-24 21:27:32

I remember at that time, my Mum commenting that Susan Hampshire was too grown-up to portray Katie Carr.

Mind you, think of the Railway Children, the female actors were young women.

flappergirl Mon 26-Feb-24 21:42:03

The biggest spotty dog you ever did see!

BlueBelle Mon 26-Feb-24 22:04:40

We didn’t have a tv until after I left home so I used to listen to Children’s Hour at 5 pm ( was it) every night
but I watched a lot with my children when they were little The clangers, Magic Roundabout, Crystal Tips and Alistair , sooty, the Wombles captain pugwash, Bill and Ben,

Gin Mon 26-Feb-24 22:19:26

Whirligig with Humphrey Lestocq was my favourite when we first had a TV in the fifties. He was the stooge to the puppet Mr Turnip.

MissAdventure Mon 26-Feb-24 22:45:34

The Banana Splits! Hooray!

SeaWoozle Mon 26-Feb-24 22:55:17

I've thought of some more - some later than others but helped by the fact I had younger siblings!

Thundercats
Muppet Babies
Snoopy and Friends
The Muppet Show

My older son loved Hector’s House and my younger son loved Paddington.
