It has been announced today that a new series is currently being filmed, all crew and actors have had to sign a NDO.

Looking forward to it already.

Hooray!!

None of them seemed to age between 1912 and 1925, it will be interesting to see which of the original cast return and what they look like. Do Daisy and Andy have a family? Will Marigold smile or speak? Will Master George go away to school? I can’t wait to find out!

I was mesmerised by the beautiful intricate, beaded, fitted costumes, breathtaking,
as were the hats, exquisite jewellery, parasols, all elegant accoutrements,
particularly the majestic Maggie Smith’s ensembles,
‘fine feathers make fine birds’ do they not

It was a wonderful series, for all sorts of reasons. The setting and the costumes, the family saga, the downstairs daily life and personal problems of the staff, the wonderful acting all round, plot and dialogue and music.

My souvenir pen from the village location.

I bought the teatowel from the same shop, inside the location of the ‘cottage hospital’ there, which I think was really the village library? Am a big fan of Downton so had to visit the village where it’s filmed, Bampton in Oxfordshire, also Highclere for the house location.Well worth a visit.

Tuckshop Thankyou for the reminder I’ll watch it today.

I am a big fan of Downton and so pleased to hear there's going to be more of the tv series. I wasn't too sure about the films, although they were ok they didn't have the charm of the tv series.

Calendargirl Sun 18-Feb-24 13:15:10

I have not seen the second film of Downton, so unsure what year it had reached?

CombinedScience Sun 18-Feb-24 12:23:06

I've never watched any of it...TV or films, though it's just my sort of thing. There's so much to catch up on that I really can't justify the time now, so am saving it for my late retirement in a decade or two! Ditto learning to crochet. Maybe even both at the same time!

Tanith the episode you missed is on ITV 3 today at 3.30 pm intil 5.30pm,followed by the film about George V visit to Downton where Branson excels.Hope you manage to see it.

Love to watch it for the setting DS's in laws live in the village where they film. I have books and tea towels etc that they have given me as gifts.

Glenfinnan Sun 18-Feb-24 11:33:04

Oh how wonderful!! Have been rewatching the old ones!

newnanny Sun 18-Feb-24 11:24:24

Im looking forward to it too. I might watch back as I have them on blu ray courtesy of DD who used to buy them for me for Xmas in box sets. I'll let him know there will be a new set out soon.

I record most stuff, and Downton, replays, I recorded!

love it

It will indeed be interesting. Maybe a bit unsettling too - up to as far as they've got, it all seems "history" and a long time ago, so all the class stuff doesn't really impinge; it's somehow quaint. Once we've got the Second World War it stops being history and becomes real life, albeit not mine (b. 1955) but my parents'. Looking forward to it!

Some of the props for Downton Abbey (as well as other prominent TV series and films) were purchased from my vintage shop

Its something that happens regularly when you run an online vintage shop. I get a lot of contacts from corporate clients in the USA such as TV, theatrical and opera companies. Of course they want the items very quickly but Fedex can deliver over night.

If Downton Abbey does a new series that will bring it into WWII era and the decade of my birth and childhood. It should (potentially) be an interesting era. Technology was changing so fast but the old class system were still very strong. They certainly affected my family which was split along class lines. Ideas of "marrying beneath one" and "forgetting your place" were still common and single mothers were beyond the pale.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with for the war years and women's changing role.

Looking forward to it.
I have worked as an extra and had to sign a NDA. Think it’s pretty standard.
