We saw it and were fascinated by it. Brought back some uncomfortable memories of being a young teenager at the time it looked as if the world could be on the brink of nuclear war.

I've not seen any of Peaky Blinders so didn't have to re-think Cillian Murphy but I thought the acting was great. Best part to play must have been the lucky so-and-so who got to act Einstein.

Agreed! I saw it last night and thought it excellent and thought-provoking. I inadvertently booked tickets for the subtitled screening, but found this really helpful for understanding some of the sciencey stuff!

Last week and thought it was excellent but I felt it would have been improved by showing a newsreel of the devastating effects of the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki .

I thought it was a brilliant movie - the three hours just whizzed by although I did have to go to the loo halfway through. The Barbie movie was also fantastic and the older ones among us will certainly recognize some of the references to earlier movies, especially 2001 in the opening sequence.

It's a thumbs up for this movie from me. I went today with 3 of the Knitting group and we all liked it, and one of the ladies said she had read the book and felt it was true to the story.
There was no feeling that it was 3 hours long it was so engrossing. We had the comfy reclining seats too.
My one gripe would be the volume. The speech I found no problem in hearing which was something that had concerned me, but the noise effects were sooooo loud and you could feel the vibrations.
I quite like the trailers as it gives you a taster of what's coming and I think there may be a return cinema visit in the future.

Just got home from viewing it and thought it was superb. I agree the sound could be better but it did improve and I was able to follow it perfectly well. I found the first hour didn't go quickly then the last two hours just whizzed along. Cillian Murphy was brilliant but actually all of the acting was excellent. This is a film that is well worth watching.

Was hoping to go today, but friends couldn’t make it . So thanks chestnut - I will watch the series, in the comfort of my warm bed .

Walked out of Openheimer after half an hour of noise, mumbling (I have excellent hearing aids), actors staring into camera in an effort to act (Olivier and Gielgud revolving in graves) and having no idea who was who or what was happening. So no, not keen.

They have decided to put this on BBC4 starting Sat 12th, although it's very late at night so iPlayer or a recording will be better.

knowing what it's about I just couldn't bear to go and see it!

Saw it yesterday - thought it was very good, Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jnr gave excellent performances. My only criticism was the volume of the music - the whole cinema was shaking - I had to put my fingers in my ears!

I agree about the film curlywhirly and even more so about the volume. I took my young grandchildren to the ninja turtle movie - same issue, deafening volume. It’s unnecessary

I found this film superb and the acting first class.
The only part I wasn't happy with was Tom Conti as a cuddly Einstein.

I agree the volume in most cinemas now is unacceptable. I bought concert earplugs and they work very well in lowering the sound level. They are for pop concerts. My grandchildren all have ear defenders as it's unfair to expect children to endure that level of noise, especially if they have a sensitivity to loud noise.

I once asked for the volume to be turned down. My autistic grandson was distressed - the volume was lowered

I started watching the BBC version on BBC which was excellent especially when I discovered I could watch it on the iPlayer. As a result I watched it over the last two nights. I was contemplating heading to the cinema (and still am) but don't know if I can cope with three hours but then again that's what I did at home so think I will give it a try but am now thinking I would not enjoy the volume!! Too many buts so maybe just wait and pay for it on Sky so I can control the volume from my arm chair!!!!

Thank you so much for this. I watched the film last night with the family It didn't help that I couldn’t put my usual subtitles up but I got very confused with all the characters. I’m now watching the documentary and will rewatch the film with subtitles. Sometimes finding out too much about a film ruins it but, in this case I wish I’d read up on it first.

A good companion film to the new film Oppenheimer or TV's The Trials of Oppenheimer is George Clooney's 2005 Goodnight and Good Luck. This also stars David Straithairn, this time as CBS's Edward Murrow taking on Joseph McCarthy. It's currently on ITVX.

Robert Downey Junior plays Joe Wershba who reported on the case of USAF Milo John Radulovich accused of Communist connections and sympathies which sets the whole story in motion. Downey is also in Oppenheimer as Lewis Strauss, a driving force in the controversial hearings against Oppenheimer, so the other side of the fence this time.

I’ve watched Goodnight And Good Luck and can recommend it. Edward Murrow was my Mum’s hero and I would have loved her to see it.

7 well deserved BAFTA's for Oppenheimer. It bodes well for the Oscars next month.

I no longer go to the cinema as its a taxi ride into the city plus entry fees. Too much hastle. Cheaper to wait til its available for streaming.

It was available a couple of weeks ago so I actually watched it in one session. Its very unusual for me to watch TV for three hours but I was very much drawn in. There are also a couple of other documentaries on netflix about this period.

I had looked forward to seeing this film. I wasn't impressed at all. It was tedious. Unnecessarily drawn out and boring. I was actually glad I'd fallen asleep for half an hour of it and hadn't missed anything important.
The subject of the film is incredibly important and interesting. This rendition of it was just self important and, well, dull.

I watched it and it was a story that I knew the basic plot, so no real surprises, it was of course well dramatized and acted. If I’m going to pay to go to the cinema I like a storyline that is revealed during the film.

I have not seen Barbie but I’m sure the GC loved it no surprises that it has made a great deal of money, nor that it got no BAFTAS
