Beyond Van Gogh, The Immersive Experience

Jacksgrandma123 I saw this in York too pre lockdowns - wonderful. Would recommend anyone goes wherever it’s showing if they get the chance. Also went to a Salvador Dali immersive exhibition in the East End of London this year. Interesting if you like his work - it can be considered whacky! I subsequently had an unplanned operation and my hallucinations post op were peppered with Dali images!!

Saw it in Edinburgh. Grandchildren were not impressed. Don't know what I expected. The Sunflower room was a bit of a disappointment. Mostly just a video. I thought there might have been one painting there that was real. I'm sadly lacking in culture!!!

Visited this in Edinburgh, was disappointing. All video, I thought there would be at least one original painting. The sunflower room was tiny,all done with mirrors. Maybe I'm not intellectual enough. Grandchildren were bored. Just my opinion.

I haven't seen the Van Gogh Immersive sadly but would highly recommend the Hockey Immersive currently on at the Lightbox in Coal Drop Yard Kings Cross London. I love DH having made some costumes for his Magic Flute at Glyndbourne in the 70'then seeing some of his body of work on a huge scale with his lovely lilt voicing was fantastic! Cant praise it enough- go if you can.

No, but I went to the David Hockney immersive experience in London, which was brilliant. That was partly because of Hockney's very thoughtful and engaging commentary, though.

Yessss! Definitely worthwhile. Saw it last year in a scruffy industrial unit in Bristol. Once inside the building (just a huge shed) it was amazing.
It’s educational and awe inspiring. Definitely “immersive” with Van Gogh’s paintings projected onto the walls, ceiling and floor, constantly moving and transforming. You sit in deck chairs or on comfortable benches just surrounded by the brilliantly manipulated images and music. No original paintings, but there was an area at the beginning with an exhibition introducing and discussing his art.

Yes I saw it locally and loved it.

The genius(es) who created this visual, immersive experience took art we’ve only seen on the walls of museums or in books and made your favorite pictures come alive!

My first visit in my hometown was the Monet exhibit - fabulous and awesomely choreographed to music. A truly sensory experience.

The Van Gogh exhibit was really lovely but not as colorful and didn’t have the interior kiosks that showed more images besides what was on exterior walls like Monet.

If you have a chance go see Monet, but Van Gogh will also be worth every penny.

The London one is £15.50 for Seniors, plus £5 for the virtual reality experience, which was my favourite part!

It's a short walk from Liverpool Street Station.

I saw this in London. It was great but our only criticism was that there were not enough seats so there was a lot of standing around.

Not seen this but have been to Frameless near Marble Arch in London. Sounds similar. I loved it.

We went to the Monet one in Melbourne, Aus, it was amazing, DH not very 'arty' but loved it - going to the Hockney one on Monday. Definitely worth going to this type of thing- but a different experience to looking at paintings in a gallery! (Oh dear should it be 'different from'?)

They have extended the exhibit, so I will be able to go after all, so excited! Now we just have to decide whether include children or not. I’m all for exposing them to art, but bored children can detract from our experience.

Saw it in a quarry in France. Absolutely amazing.

I had to go to a dear friend’s funeral in Paris a few weeks ago and en route called in at the Atelier des Lumières where there was an immersive experience of Chagall and Paul Klee. It was wonderful and made the loss more bearable. The gallery was full if children playing in the colours cast by the paintings. I thoroughly reccommend it particularly Chagall who could have been made for this new medium.

Update... We did go see it as a family, with my DH, DD, SIL and 2 grandchildren. It was fantastic. The children were mesmerized, and even my DH who is not normally an art gallery lover said he could have stayed and watched it again.

So go if you have the chance!

Thanks Riverwalk that’s not too expensive I d love to see it but I ve never heard of it at any cities in my area perhaps it ll come a bit nearer at some point

I am sure I am wrong but just can’t gather any enthusiasm for this way of looking at these wonderful paintings. I just want to see the real thing if possible and not reproduced images even if they are technically great.
