Yes crazyH it was Sarah Kennedy, thank you! She did those tales sent in by mums about their kids. Very funny. As in:

Child lying on the floor, looking up grandma’s skirt while she is ironing ...
“Grandma, what’s inside your knickers?”
Grandma freezes.
Not all all sure what to say at this point.
“Inside mine they say age 3 to 4”

When I was stuck at traffic lights I could look across at the other cars and all the drivers would be laughing too.

Oh yes, it was funny to notice another driver laughing at the traffic lights and you knew it was at a Woganism!

When Terry Wogan is mentioned I always think of his very funny made up names and at one time we had a GN member who went by the name Wilma Knickersfit.
That was one of his.

I have just listened to Janet and John on u tube.
Why did I never hear them before?
I nearly choked laughing , could only manage 3.
I will listen to more tomorrow.
Better than any tonic.

I liked Sarah Kennedy a lot, but she was an absolute liability

annesixty glad you enjoyed the Janet and John stories. Imagine how it felt hearing them at eight o'clock in the morning!

It’s interesting that we have a wide variety of ages on this thread, and yet we all listened to Wogan and loved him.

In fact, I remember listening to him on the way to school in my dad’s car when I was about 8, and also on the way to work in my 30s and 40s.

I can’t imagine that Zoe Ball has a following like that.

He used to get me to work with a smile too. Miss that gentle humour.

Thank you Aveline for telling me about them, they are delightful.
In 1965/6 two friends and I all had small children, babies in fact.
Once a month we would visit one of our small group for the day.
We would try as much as we could to make lunch from the spot on Jimmy Young’s morning show when a “chipmonkey “ voice would ask”What’s the recipe today Jim?”
Those were very very happy years and a wonderful memory.
Still friends today.

Can I also mention what a brilliant interviewer he was. Last Autumn they showed a compilation of his TV interviews introduced by a much older Terry Wogan some years later. So we were looking back at him looking back. I had forgotten how well he handled his guests and how he kept the tone light. He never ogled or flirted with the women like Parkinson (who was often leery) and seemed to handle anything thrown at him.

As we know, some guests can be difficult, but he was never fazed. Just watch how he handles a very unexpected Nicholas Cage:

I loved the chat between Terry and Jimmy when they were changing over.
I am now off to listen to Janet and John.

I don't remember Janet and John, but used to drive to work around the period when Shogun was on the TV with Richard Chamberlain. Terry's references to it were hilarious.

I recently watched some repeats of him hosting Blankety Blank, which I loved, and was surprised to find myself cringing at his touching of the young women contestants. Just shows how times change!

I listened while I set my classroom up. My TA used to come in just to listen for a bit. Anyone remember the posties' elastic bands? TOG&G for ever!

I think innuendo is still a very common form of comedy, Julian Clary, etc

But so funny Aveline & Callistemon I don't find myself laughing out loud at most of today's comedians as I did with Terry.
