Any one watching The Gilded Age (Julian Fellows)?

Edith Wharton novels of American high society are tremendously detailed on the fashions, furnishing and etiquette of the time. There are some readers nowadays who dislike this kind of writing - probably because it asks too much of the reader.

Another wonderful Wharton novel (set a little later) is House of Mirth which details the downfall of a young society woman who falls upon hard times.

Going totally off the subject of the OP, my favourite EW novel is Ethan Frome. Liam Neeson stars in a film of it, one of the few times I’ve enjoyed the film as much as the original book.

I watched the first episode last night and was a bit underwhelmed, I will try another episode.
