Yes - finally. About to start tonight. 7 episodes. This is in my top three of great crime drama series. The Bridge is second with Shetland third.

The phone will be on silent and MrM had better not interrupt my pleasure. I think he's tempted to watch it though.

Jed Mercurio never ceases to come up with a great story line. Series 3 was probably be best so far for me.

Thanks for the very helpful link Callistemon. I knew about Ryan Pilkington but not the other guy. The plot is so interwoven, and everything is important, even long ago trivial things from earlier series.

Kate seems to recognise Ryan Pilkington, I wonder if Steve will. After all, he got close up and personal when the little scumbag wanted to chop off his finger.

I ve given up I just couldn’t get it I think it s one you be had to watch from the first series I just couldn’t get to understand it unfortunately ...I tried but I can’t lose any more of my life trying to like it because everyone says it’s fantastic

Calendargirl Mon 29-Mar-21 07:13:14

I’m sure Kate will work out where she recognises Ryan from.

Iam64 Mon 29-Mar-21 09:23:57

Tanith, Ryan was never charged with anything. At his interview he told the panel he’d had a tough childhood. He said he turned his life around after PC Banerjee took an interest in him, showed him a better way of life.
No one in the police service knows he was part of the gang threatening to chop Steve’s fingers off, or that he murdered John Corbett.
Well, H or other bent coppers might know
Great episode last night

...and will Steve get romantic with the Liverpudlian widow?

I enjoyed it and understood most of it. I have watched all the past series twice which helps. A bit unsure about Ted and Steph, I remember he secretly gave her a large amount of cash.

I've watched Series 1-4 twice because I saw 3-4 first and got confused, so went back to the start! Seeing them twice has definitely helped.

Thanks Iam64 that explains it I guess.
Did Steph say when she met with Ted something about a phone call and HMRC? In which case maybe they are checking where she suddenly got 50K from if she was daft enough to put it in the bank. Might come back to bite Ted on the bum.

Anyone else wondering if Jed Mercurio plotted out 6+ series initially. It's quite complicated making stand-alone series with intertwining characters.
JK Rowling told Alan Rickman early on about Snape's future, so she had the core of the whole thing in her head, even though she hadn't written the books. I wonder if Jed Mercurio has too.

Oh, all those loose ends to tie up in the final episode. I can’t wait. Steve will surely recognise Ryan the Rat when he gets to see him. I hope that he finds a good physio to sort out his back spasms though otherwise it is early retirement for him.

Re-watched all episodes before this series which, as people have said, does help! However had forgotten Ted’s bundle of money at the graveyard. I now wonder ... Steve is bound to want to find out where her new found wealth is from ... will he stay at AC12? It might be the thing to keep him there, investigating Ted. His back pain? Wow, wish we could all get our hands on those tablets, they’re extremely quick acting!

I listened to the ‘Obsessed With Line of Duty’ podcast this morning on my walk and during the discussion it was hinted that on the adverts for this series the headline was ‘Lies cost Lives’ maybe one of the gang of 3 Ted,Steve or Kate is for the chop this series.
So many theories I’m loving it.

Ilovecheese Mon 29-Mar-21 12:35:01

I thought the voice on the tape was Jimmy Lakewell, the solicitor from series four who preferred to go to prison rather than give evidence because he was so scared.

Atqui Mon 29-Mar-21 13:33:16

Is Steph John Corbett widow?

Ilovecheese Mon 29-Mar-21 13:35:45

Yes, she is his widow.

Callistemon Mon 29-Mar-21 13:36:37

Yes, she is.

Parsley3 Mon 29-Mar-21 13:38:34

I remember now. Jimmy Lakewell was well dodgy. There is so much to piece together so I have to pay attention, fella. Off to listen to the podcast now.

Jaxjacky Mon 29-Mar-21 13:47:38

Really enjoyed it, one of the few programmes that needs total attention, my daughter started messaging me half way in, I had to pause TV much to DH’s annoyance!

Atqui Mon 29-Mar-21 13:59:27

Bluebelle ( if you are still, reading this- I know what you mean about LOD being time consuming! It’s not just the programme but reading forums about who’s who and various theories, if you haven’t watched every series. However it’s very entertaining.

I’ve learned today that Jed Mercurio comes from a town near to me. There is a Pear Tree Estate in my town. We are claiming his inspiration.

BlueBelle Mon 29-Mar-21 15:56:37

* Atqui* thanks but no I think life’s too short to go back over 30 hoursof 5 previous series I ll let it go to all the admirers
I ve got lots of dramas and crime series without busting my brain on this one I must have dipped into to something because I recognise the three main characters I probably did the same with a past series ? Dipped in and popped out

Iam64 Mon 29-Mar-21 15:57:27

Did Steve send Steph out for his magic quick acting pain killers so he could put a listening device in her house or phone?
I hope he doesn’t develop an intimate (sexual) relationship with her. He does have a track record doesn’t he, for forming inappropriate liaisons.

Line of Duty is class, not often so many people are enjoying a long series

flowerofthewestx2 Mon 29-Mar-21 16:33:20

Acronyms LofD. May come in useful

Callistemon Mon 29-Mar-21 20:06:38

More Spooked than Line of Duty today!
I was just wondering how you are this very morning flowerofthewestx2 as I hadn't seen you posting for ages and here you are!

Welcome back.

seacliff Mon 29-Mar-21 22:18:48

I don't know why, but I am not enjoying this series. I am not sure if I'll continue. It's gone on too long.

I have just watched the end of Unforgotten, wow, won't spoil. No comparison for me.
