Did anyone see the first of the 4 episodes last night? I’ll stick with it, but I’m sure the main character wouldn’t get a job in a school quite so easily! I haven’t seen any spoilers, so waiting to see if she’s right or mistaken.
I must say I hardly recognized Jill Halfpenny - a while since she’s been in tv. She voices both Sky and Argos ads in her usual NE accent, but has dropped it for this role.

No, but it's far too complicated and unbelievable to explain!

grannyticktock Thu 04-Feb-21 23:02:08

No he wasn't, the DNA test was forged. There were various last-minute twists, each more ludicrous than the last, and lots of unanswered questions and loose ends. It was quite daft by the end.

Thanks trisher and grannyticktock much appreciated

Shandy57 Thu 04-Feb-21 23:18:44

It was very silly wasn't it!

Maggiemaybe Thu 04-Feb-21 23:38:36

Oh dear, it was so bad! Jason swimming desperately after the boat made me laugh out loud as well. What the heck was he even doing it for? I thought the young actor playing Daniel was good though - he’s the son of the lead vocalist of Placebo, Brian Molko, whose posters used to adorn DD2’s bedroom walls back in the day.

Thank goodness I’ve got It’s a Sin to look forward to tomorrow.

Very, very silly - and lots of unnecessary drama added in (the gang master, etc) that was really nothing to do with the plot and went absolutely nowhere.

It could have been good - but it wasn't.

A bit random but does anyone know what the pottery was on the mum's shelves?

Oh, I didn’t notice any pottery.
I was too riveted by the story!

?????

4 hours I’ll never get back! I stuck with it hoping there be an interesting twist!
All too far fetched, the matriarch was too laid back. I also noticed the pottery, which goes to show how uninteresting the acting was.

LullyDully Fri 05-Feb-21 08:15:36

Yes, the pottery was rather arty. Nice to have enough space to display it all.

On another matter, where did she get that awful coat from?

There were so many loose ends left untied. Such a good cast wasted.

Mary59nana Fri 05-Feb-21 16:41:57

I watched it and yes there were a few weak storylines but I was most confused at the Ex son in law being umosgst the family with his new wife and child.
I can appreciate it when there is a family gathering regarding shared children but this wasn't so.
Di anyone else think the same ?

Calendargirl Fri 05-Feb-21 17:44:45

Mary59nana

Yes, it was odd, but do you think it suited the brother Jason to have them ‘on side’ so to speak?

He would know that the ex and his new wife would want a line drawn under the unfortunate past, and if Jodie seemed mad and irrational, they would all be able to ‘gang up’ against her.

Mary59nana Fri 05-Feb-21 17:53:25

calendagirl
You are so right I never thought of it that way
Thank you for putting my mind at rest as I went of to bed last trying to work the relation of all to each other

BlueBelle Fri 05-Feb-21 17:57:46

Blimey you’re a observant lot I never saw any pottery I m too busy trying to follow the story line always miss the little bits and bobs

Lillie Fri 05-Feb-21 18:14:24

I noticed the pottery on the dresser too. I thought it was Emma Bridgewater at first, but it looked heavier and more rustic. It looked good because there was so much of it, (so expensive).

I had a thought, the title The drowning could have been Tom's drowning AND Jason's drowning, though I think it meant the boy's.

varian Fri 05-Feb-21 18:25:55

Surely the boy's father would have had baby and toddler photos which would have proved that he had not abducted him when he was four.?

The absurd coincidences and lack of common sense follow ups was just ridiculous.

I have never up until now, had any ambition to be a tv playwright but I am seriously beginning to think of it as a very late career move. I am sure that most of us Gransnetter could come up with a better plot.

merlotgran Fri 05-Feb-21 18:36:44

I'm still wondering why Delia Smith was playing the matriarch? grin

trisher Fri 05-Feb-21 18:42:33

I just wondered how the very posh matriarch managed to have 2 children with such working class accents!

Lillie Fri 05-Feb-21 20:00:57

No one ever appeared to do much actual work, (apart from the gardeners).

RulaNula Fri 05-Feb-21 20:05:58

I started this but didn't finish.

So was he or was he not the son?

Or is the pottery more interesting?

Curlywhirly Fri 05-Feb-21 20:18:04

Oh Trisher did you equate 'working class accents' with northern accents - do you think they are the same thing? Just asking!

Calendargirl Fri 05-Feb-21 20:57:58

RulaNula

No, he was not the son. The little boy really did drown while Jodie’s brother Jason was meant to be keeping an eye on him, so he covered it all up.

It was a damp squib ending, which is often the case, after a storyline full of holes and far fetched-ness.

Oh, and the brother also drowned at the end!

trisher Fri 05-Feb-21 21:01:32

Call them Northern, working class what you will, they bore no relationship at all to the mother's accent. Now you do sometimes get slight differences but such huge ones never.

Sunlover Fri 05-Feb-21 22:31:36

Thought it was a very poor plot. Unrealistic, especially the part in the school.
Lovely scenery where the drowning took place. Wonder where it was filmed?

Shandy57 Fri 05-Feb-21 22:38:26

It was filmed in Dublin. Second rubbish drama I've wasted my eyes and ears on!
