The Drowning

Did anyone see the first of the 4 episodes last night? I’ll stick with it, but I’m sure the main character wouldn’t get a job in a school quite so easily! I haven’t seen any spoilers, so waiting to see if she’s right or mistaken.
I must say I hardly recognized Jill Halfpenny - a while since she’s been in tv. She voices both Sky and Argos ads in her usual NE accent, but has dropped it for this role.

I noticed the pottery on the dresser too. I thought it was Emma Bridgewater at first, but it looked heavier and more rustic. It looked good because there was so much of it, (so expensive).

I had a thought, the title The drowning could have been Tom's drowning AND Jason's drowning, though I think it meant the boy's.

Blimey you’re a observant lot I never saw any pottery I m too busy trying to follow the story line always miss the little bits and bobs

calendagirl
You are so right I never thought of it that way
Thank you for putting my mind at rest as I went of to bed last trying to work the relation of all to each other

Yes, it was odd, but do you think it suited the brother Jason to have them ‘on side’ so to speak?

He would know that the ex and his new wife would want a line drawn under the unfortunate past, and if Jodie seemed mad and irrational, they would all be able to ‘gang up’ against her.

Mary59nana Fri 05-Feb-21 16:41:57

I watched it and yes there were a few weak storylines but I was most confused at the Ex son in law being umosgst the family with his new wife and child.
I can appreciate it when there is a family gathering regarding shared children but this wasn't so.
Di anyone else think the same ?

LullyDully Fri 05-Feb-21 08:15:36

Yes, the pottery was rather arty. Nice to have enough space to display it all.

On another matter, where did she get that awful coat from?

There were so many loose ends left untied. Such a good cast wasted.

4 hours I’ll never get back! I stuck with it hoping there be an interesting twist!
All too far fetched, the matriarch was too laid back. I also noticed the pottery, which goes to show how uninteresting the acting was.

Biscuitmuncher

A bit random but does anyone know what the pottery was on the mum's shelves?

Oh, I didn’t notice any pottery.
I was too riveted by the story!

?????

Very, very silly - and lots of unnecessary drama added in (the gang master, etc) that was really nothing to do with the plot and went absolutely nowhere.

It could have been good - but it wasn't.

Maggiemaybe Thu 04-Feb-21 23:38:36

Oh dear, it was so bad! Jason swimming desperately after the boat made me laugh out loud as well. What the heck was he even doing it for? I thought the young actor playing Daniel was good though - he’s the son of the lead vocalist of Placebo, Brian Molko, whose posters used to adorn DD2’s bedroom walls back in the day.

Thank goodness I’ve got It’s a Sin to look forward to tomorrow.

Shandy57 Thu 04-Feb-21 23:18:44

It was very silly wasn't it!

Gwyneth Thu 04-Feb-21 23:07:27

Thanks trisher and grannyticktock much appreciated

grannyticktock Thu 04-Feb-21 23:02:08

No he wasn't, the DNA test was forged. There were various last-minute twists, each more ludicrous than the last, and lots of unanswered questions and loose ends. It was quite daft by the end.

trisher Thu 04-Feb-21 22:46:42

No, but it's far too complicated and unbelievable to explain!

Gwyneth Thu 04-Feb-21 22:42:17

I missed the last episode and cannot watch it on itv hub so the million dollar question was Daniel her lost son or not?

trisher Thu 04-Feb-21 22:32:00

I thought the bit when he was swimming after the boat was the funniest thing I'd seen in a long time! I don't think it was meant to be, but really! What do you do when you want to get away? take a boat out of course! grin

grandmajet Thu 04-Feb-21 22:30:06

Yes, utter drivel. But I was glued to it for four nights! Grannyrose, I hope you’re right. Happy family time now.

BlueBelle Thu 04-Feb-21 22:28:41

Well it was very far fetched but I somehow enjoyed it

GrannyRose15 Thu 04-Feb-21 22:25:09

Total tosh. Pity though cos it could have made a good story. There's still hope though that Jodie and Mark get together and they all live happily ever after.

Well more ridiculous things have happened.

Lillie Thu 04-Feb-21 22:18:28

Don't worry Calendargirl, Daniel's dad can have Jodie's bother's car!
If Daniel wasn't disturbed before, he will be now.

I know it was far fetched, but I felt a bit of sadness at the end.

silverlining48 Thu 04-Feb-21 22:13:44

well thank goodness thats over. I missed one episode and sorry i didn't miss the rest.

grumppa Thu 04-Feb-21 22:04:36

Beyond far-fetched. Each episode was more ludicrous than the one before.

Calendargirl Thu 04-Feb-21 22:01:39

Oh well, now we know!

Far fetched or what?

Hope Daniel’s dad got his car back from the passport forgers.

GillT57 Thu 04-Feb-21 13:39:51

Tosh, but enjoyable tosh. I agree there is some background to the Mother and Brother; that comment about 'you owe her' plus there is an undercurrent between Jodie and her Mother, you would expect there to have been more empathy and kindness towards someone who had lost their child, even if they were all grieving too. I don't believe that a child of 4 would accept 'new parents', crikey children start school at that age. Will watch it tonight to see what happens.
