Just seen a trailer for this new mini series, starting on December 27th on BBC 1 I assume.

Diana Rigg in one of her last roles.

Don’t know if it will match up to the original film starring Deborah Kerr, but something new to look forward to over Christmas.

I enjoyed it, the stunning scenery a bonus, reminded us of a trip up the Atlas Mountains. Mr C even put his book down although he wouldn’t admit he was watching it grin

I was disappointed. To drag it into 3 nights was a mistake and all a bit colourless. IMO
I liked the 1947 film with Deborah Kerr much better. We have it on DVD and call it Ladies on a Mountain

I enjoyed it but I wanted a happy ever after ending.

Delila Tue 29-Dec-20 22:47:52

Marvellous!

Well I enjoyed it! I was glued to tonight's episode even though I knew what was going to happen. I didn't fid it slow at all. Perhaps I've been reading too much Hilary Mantell.

Her horse

Oh dear

Callistemon Tue 29-Dec-20 22:25:03

???

Well, that was a let down.
I thought he might have swept her off his horse and carried her off to his mountain lair.

It's me, Cathy

I can't decide why it came across as so flat. What should have been dramatic moments just seemed uneventful.
"Oh look mum there's two nuns dangling from a bell rope"
" Eat your breakfast they're just attention seeking."

GrandmaKT Tue 29-Dec-20 22:07:27

Oh well. I stuck with it! Beautiful scenery, but the over-riding feeling is that there's another 3 hours of my life I won't get back!

EllanVannin Tue 29-Dec-20 22:06:07

They should have booked with Easyjet.

merlotgran Tue 29-Dec-20 22:04:41

Oh well!

Nun of this, nun of that and nun of the other. grin

Jane10 Tue 29-Dec-20 16:34:17

trisher I completely agree Sister Michael in Derry Girls is wonderful!

Callistemon Tue 29-Dec-20 16:31:02

I like Sister Briony best, she could be fun.

dolphindaisy Tue 29-Dec-20 16:30:20

Just watched the first two episodes on Catchup, quite enjoyable but not one of the best dramas. It's also the first time I've seen a nun with a "trout pout"

EllanVannin Tue 29-Dec-20 16:24:05

One of those ( background ) nun's looks like Rowan Atkinson.

Lona

Calendargirl grin well, I got that wrong didn't I?
34!

Actresses looked older back in the 1940’s.!

I was thinking how much more accurate the Sister in Derry Girls is as a depiction of a real nun.

My main thought is that they must all be freeeeezing!
It is slow but that's because the book could be retitled 'Five go nuts in Nepal'!

grin !

Callistemon Tue 29-Dec-20 14:21:05

It's better to use cold water to wash out blood, hot water 'sets' it.

There was plenty of blood.

I just realised that I went on a bit - more than a couple of sentences!

I'll write a TV script just for you, Sparklefizz
?

Ooh ... pleeeeease! smile

Perhaps it depends which order they belong to and how big the tv budget was. There hems got a bit muddy but fortunately there were no stains down the front of their habits.

Another one who nodded off for 10 minutes. OH offered to rewind it but I said not to bother. We wondered if CGI was used for some of the travelling scenes.

trisher Tue 29-Dec-20 12:34:56

Hang on weren't they in the bath house in some sort of Victorian type undergarments getting washed? I did wonder at the time I thought nuns only undressed in private and never revealed their body even to other sisters.

^In a couple of sentences, say what you think should be happening, or what you hope happens!^

Young prince marries young girl, takes over palace and throws out the nuns.
Gemma Arterton and Sister Ruth have a struggle on the bell tower (can't tell you quite what happens as I have my hands over my eyes and feel sick) but Ruth falls over, plunges down the Himalaya. Gemma runs away with Dean, her hair grows back and they live happily ever after because her passionate nature reveals itself.

The other nuns stay there and run the school for the Prince and his now expanding harem and children, smiling even more happily as they get frostbite and go steadily nuts.
They must all smell dreadful too, no hot showers or baths, just a bowl of ice covered water.

Sounds like my perfect night's TV.
