Well we traditionally have a thread - so I am starting one.

All mothers of contestants are strictly (!!!) barred!

I'm rooting for JJ Chalmers! (I hope that's his name)

I agree with you about CQ. I thought she was trying very hard not to let her feelings show at the judges remarks. Mind you, the paso is a challenging dance and it is only week two. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of most of the dancing for so early in the series. Jacqui is the worst so far. The wean with no vowels is a good dancer but irritated me with his cockiness until he wept seeing his nan. As Marian Keyes says, "week two and they're bringing the nans out!" ? I'm not a fan of maisie. She is good but I feel she wouldn't be in this if she hadn't been trained. As my gran would have said, "she's got a guid conceit o hersel." It does help the autumn/winter Saturday nights go past, even if it's a bit flatter at times.

Bill Bailey was great wasn’t he and comes across as a nice person.
JJ did well I thought but just wondered how much pain he is in most of the time. We saw him when he was doing the pilgrimage to Compostello - I think he had a few problems along the route but made it.
I was pleased to see a ‘Normal’ programme on. The BBC News channel - the one which shows lots of Parliamentary debates - had reruns of 1970s election night results programmes in their entirety !!

Damn, I missed the re-runs of the 1970s election night but hopefully it will be on the i-player.

What will they think of next?

Millie22 Sun 01-Nov-20 15:37:17

There is something about Caroline what is it? I don't think she liked the judges comments last night and does seem a bit all lovey. JJ is my favourite atm.

I was really pleased with Bill Bailey this week
I've renamed him Twinkle Toes

Ellianne Sun 01-Nov-20 14:50:26

What is lacking is the contestants and their partners all standing together on the balcony above the staircase and sitting together on the sofa. Sometimes you can pick up vibes as to who is liked in the group and who is a bit "up themselves"!

Parsley3 Sun 01-Nov-20 14:48:15

I was really pleased with Bill Bailey this week. He has greatly improved on last week’s performance.

Kandinsky Sun 01-Nov-20 14:38:02

There’s something about Caroline I really don’t like but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Fake maybe?

fevertree Sun 01-Nov-20 13:24:59

But if CQ goes ... so does the lovely Johannes Radebe! He is superb to watch.

Teetime Sun 01-Nov-20 11:49:00

I thought CQ's face was a picture - I think she expected some more of last week's praise.

I agree with you DanniRae about CQ. Don't like her at all although I noticed that last night she had calmed down the hysterical "luvvie act" following a bad press last week Apparently CQ did ballet for years but you wouldn't know it.

Suspect Jacqui will go.

DanniRae Sun 01-Nov-20 09:35:37

I don't find the show 'flat' at all - as has already been said I think that it is as good as it could be under the circumstances. I also don't miss Bruno at all
Looking forward to tonight's show to see who is going. My money is on Anton and his partner - but I'd be happy to see Caroline Quinton go. She is someone who, to my mind, is far too full of herself.

Sparklefizz Sun 01-Nov-20 08:41:27

Shirley has a toyboy now and has been with him for a year or more.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 01-Nov-20 08:39:35

Petra I believe she has now divorced him, perhaps Strictly is her drawing a line under her marriage?

Sparklefizz Sun 01-Nov-20 08:37:17

I enjoyed it.
Nicola seems a nice person but last night's dance was no test of dancing skills. It will be a test when she does the jive.

Poor Motsi - she has such a huge bosom that only a dress of industrial-strength design will contain it. No wonder she stopped dancing and changed to judging dance instead.

It's "flatter" without an audience but hey! Well done to them all for trying hard. No one expected the programme to be exactly the same and they are doing a great job. Long may they continue.

I really needed Strictly last night after feeling stressed and upset about further lockdown. I am shielding and have only left the house 6 times since 11th March, and 3 of those trips were for the dentist. .... but today's another day. Keep smiling everyone, and stay safe. flowers

No sympathy for Jacqui Smith. This is the woman ( while Home Secretary ) claimed for her husbands porn films on expenses.

TerriBull Sun 01-Nov-20 08:08:48

Yes it is a bit flat.

After two weeks dancing I'd put my money on Nicola, Maisie and the vowel less young man, but as we know things can change from those who stand out at the outset and the slow burners who often do a Mo Farah like sprint up to the front and become forces to be reckoned with.

Kandinsky Sun 01-Nov-20 08:04:19

I’m totally on my own with this one but I don’t think Nicola Adams is that good, certainly don’t get all the fawning over her.
She’s young & an athlete, so she will be fit & able to move around the floor better than Jacqui Smith ( for example ) she’s no better than Clara or Ranvir IMO.
Maisie and Hrvy are the best by miles.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 01-Nov-20 07:34:12

Calendargirl

I know I’m alone in this, but I still find it somewhat flat this year.
They all seem to be trying too hard to be bouncy and jolly, and it feels forced to me.

No I do agree, what it misses is the audience! The celebrities always respond to an audience.

Love Strictly, I only knew a couple of people in the line up wasn't bothered this time. So glad I put it on, I'm hooked again., Jackie Smith and Caroline Quentin lack any rhythm or ability to dance unfortunately and clump about. Now I know who JJ is I think he wonderful doing it after all his injuries and am rooting for him. Bill was such a delight to watch, so light on his feet a natural dancer. Maisie is very good and Nicola too. After the news last night, it's a bright spot in the week for me, I cried when I heard the news, a month lock down, I live alone and was just beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel, but know I'm selfish, so many would give anything to be well and not worried about their jobs. I would be able to dance but I would love a make over by Strictly team.?

Luckylegs Sat 31-Oct-20 22:40:22

I agree, Shirley’s dress was too low and didn’t do much for the appearance of her bust. Motsi suited that dress better than the full body armour she appeared to be wearing last week. There seems to be a predominance for one shoulder tops at the moment.

I actually felt sorry for Jackie Smith which I’m surprised about. She isn’t a naturally brilliant dancer, yet but it was cruel of Craig to only give her 2 points. I don’t think anyone else got lower than a 5! They got fewer points than last week, unnecessarily mean.

Welshwife Sat 31-Oct-20 22:08:44

I thought Motsi’s dress had a badly fitting bodice. Even DH said that the red dress was too low!
Unfortunately I missed the last couple of dances as the sound stopped working on the other TV and DH came in to watch the rugby! A hard day with three matches but at least it is over now!

Grannynannywanny Sat 31-Oct-20 21:49:32

WOODMOUSE49 that’s true. I was trying to think of his partner’s name. Was it Emma Barton? They were a lovely partnership and their dancing was beautiful
