Coronation Street

Corrie has so gone down hill lately with rubbishy story lines, but I felt tonight’s episode was Corrie at its absolute best.
The actors who play Sinead and Daniel deserve awards.
And the way the families sat around talking and reminiscing seemed just as in real life.
Brilliant, but yes, very sad and moving.

Katie McGlynn asked to leave two years ago because she hadn't been given a decent story. She certainly got one to exit with. Such superb acting from both her and Daniel. I was in tears, as I'm sure others were.

And yes Calendargirl I thought that too about the families chatting. So very well done.

I didn't realise that Katie McGlynn could act so well.

Stopped watching the soaps when it got so depressing. My life isn’t a bowl of cherries and sometimes the telly is the only thing that distracts me. I watch mor uplifting stuff now.

I agree, I thought the acting was superb, and the scenes with the family were a lovely touch.

I think it was handled well from start to sad end, but I think throwing in the Bethany kiss was unnecessary , good acting from all.

Yes, I agree about the Bethany storyline being unnecessary.

That child is bound to be so mixed up when it comes to men. The abuser, then a gay boyfriend, and now falling for someone who has a dying wife, and being the talk of the street when they were both to blame. (I know - it's not real!)

Sinead's death was difficult to watch, but very well done. I much prefer Corrie to Eastenders. I like the soaps as they mark the transition between day and evening, and I use them to wind down, but I can't be bothered with all the gangsters and crime in Eastenders. I may have a sheltered life, but it doesn't ring true, and I much prefer the domestic drama and one-liners of Corrie.

I am a fan of a good thriller, so I'm not saying I want all TV to be comforting - far from it - I just think that that is what soaps are for.

I think the kiss was an unnecessary addition I think there was ample drama with her death and it didn’t need that
She is a good actress but I have to admit her voice drives me scatty I think Daniel was brilliant though

I used to always watch it but it got toooooo depressing. Now I watch Classic coronation street on an afternoon, much better. X

I haven’t watched Eastenders for more than twenty years for that very reason, I certainly hope it doesn’t reflect real life, but maybe it does.

I liked Daniel from his first entrance on the street, I think he’s a very well written character, and I hope in time they’ll have a happier story line for him.

I agree re Bethany. Not realistic and unnecessary.

I record Classic Coronation street and watch it while I’m ironing at the weekend, I’m currently enjoying the Reg/Maureen storyline, you’re right, it’s much gentler, my children always watched it, not sure it would be suitable now.

Isn’t Bethany leaving the show? I thought this was a way of writing her out maybe.

So sad. So well acted.

I am seriously thinking of stopping watching the soaps, the story lines are so poor you have to suspend belief.
Tonight's episode of Coronation street was especially dreary.

I actually don’t mind ironing just own very little that ever needs an iron I don’t buy linen items and the rest seem to fall into place after washing and hanging
But back to Corrie I m sorry if Beth is leaving shes a good little actress I wish they d get rid of Tims Dad what a nasty piece of work he is

I agree, I’m not sure where that storyline is going, or why Yasmin, who was always strong and feisty, is now the subservient little woman! But he makes my flesh crawl, I can’t bear him!

I think this is where Corrie has been failing lately, re Tim’s dad say. They have brought in so many topical themes, child grooming, male rape, coercive controlling behaviour (Tim’s dad), exploitation of overseas workers, the occasional murder!, plus nearly every household in the street has had someone residing at her Majesty’s pleasure. I’m not saying they aren’t important issues, but sometimes you just yearn for a more pleasant storyline, not daft ones, interspersed with serious, gripping ones, more like it seemed to be in the past.

Or perhaps it’s just me!

I think you’re right, I’ve been watching Coronation Street for as long as I can remember, I don’t watch much television these days, but I never miss that.

But, last week, when the prison riot started, I refused to watch it, it was just a step too far.

When did you last tune in, without a warning at the beginning, saying that it may upset some people?
