When I first joined I was shown a screen load of films and told to choose 3 favourites as that would help them to make appropriate suggestions for me. Unfortunately I didn't like any of them!
Oh dear. Just as well its free for now.

Both series of The Crown were worth a year’s subscription alone for me. There are many excellent documentaries as well, in particular The Staircase and Making A Murderer. I have yet to watch Breaking Bad despite being nagged by many people to watch it.

I watch it on my iPad and also on my tv through the Amazon Firestick.

Signed up for the free trial some time ago but couldn't find anything that appealed to me. In the end I cancelled. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste but the free trial is a great opportunity to 'try before you buy'.

Well I've signed up today. Nothing to lose really as it's free for a month. Might be worth it just to watch Better Call Saul - if it's half as good as Breaking Bad, it'll be worth it.

I feel much the same Jane10 we are signed up but watch very little, I will hang on and see what's on offer in the winter. If there is still not much I am interested in I will cancel.
I'm not sure how much being in France affects what is available to me.

Jane I downloaded the app onto my iPad and watched it from there until my son arrived to put it on my smart tv for me.

I love it. There's so much choice on there. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Well signed up for it but am unimpressed by what's on offer as far as I can see. Lots of trashy films and American programmes. Glad it's a free trial. At this point I won't be renewing.

SIL gave us access to their Netflix but tbh I’ve watched about 3 episodes of The Crown and got bored, and haven’t bothered with anything else.

I think I might too

Carolebarrel Sun 12-Aug-18 07:57:13

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'll be signing up.

Go to the Netflix website and sign up. It will tell you! If you have a smart TV you should make sure it’s connected to your WiFi. If in doubt, ask a teenager / read the instructions to your tv / try YouTube. There should be a button on your remote which should enable you to find the link. All sounds complicated but once it’s up and running you will love it!

How do you actually go about it? I do have a smart TV (I think! confused)

There’s a couple of threads on Netflix recommendations. Depends what you want to watch - there’s definitely something for everyone. This year I’ve enjoyed the Crown, Orange is the New Black, Seven Seconds, Breaking Bad, Suits, lots of films as well.

Stranger Things, The Santa Clarita Diet, Bitten, Grimm. I like all the weird TV series.I
Just watched a brilliant biopic film called Breathe, about Robin Cavendish, a polio victim. I won't say more, but it's a superb film.
I also like Queer Eye, and Nailed it (Bake Off it is not).??

I signed up about a year ago and my only regret is that I didn't do it before! It really is fantastic, so much choice, with new things being added all the time. In fact, since having Netflix, I scarcely watch normal TV. I can find whole series that I've missed when they were originally broadcast (and then binge watch them if I so wish). Or if I want to watch a long film, but am short on time, I can watch it in half hour chunks, turning it into a 3 or 4 part mini drama wink.
As for recommendations, I've loved The Crown, North and South, Banished, Alias Grace, The Indian Detective, Safe, along with many others, long forgotten, and countless films.

Can anyone make any recommendations of what they have particularly enjoyed ? Thanks.

I have Netflix. Best thing I've done in ages. I've watched loads of TV series and there's always good children's films and TV series for when the DGC visit.

I have it and have watched quite a few boxed sets or series do try it at least.

NanKate Sat 11-Aug-18 17:31:19

I signed up recently and am very pleased with the programmes on offer. You can share your Netflix with family members too, so my DS and my two DGS all have access to my Netflix, they pay nothing. We can all watch different programmes at the same time.

Just watched the true story called The Staircase, I was hooked, that is if you like courtroom scenes.

Yes, definitely. The free trial gives you a chance to see how much you would benefit and you can cancel it anytime and rejoin again. Will you be watching on an iPad (or similar) or a TV? The cheapest monthly subscription covers just one appliance. To get the most out of it, I use my iPad so that I can download films and TV episodes (note not all things are available to download) so that I can view when away from home (on planes, trains, hotel rooms, at home in bed, in the bath, even!, etc.) I then bought a simple connector which enables me to “cast” using WiFi from my iPad to my TV so I can watch on the bigger screen and the sound and picture quality is as good as the TV’s capability. You’ve got nothing to lose and a month to explore. Let us know if you go ahead.

Thanks for responding Rubytut. Hope you enjoy it, you're right, there's not much on tv. Might well sign up.

rubytut Sat 11-Aug-18 17:13:01

How odd, I signed up for a free trial 5 mins ago as there is nothing on TV that I want to watch tonight. It was quick and simple to sign up and they email you 3 days before the free trial is up.

Thinking of subscribing to Netflix ( basic package). Is it worth it?
