Anyone started this I enjoyed the last series and found this one started really promisingly I find him very attractive and think his character works so well with Robin

As J.K.Rowling was executive producer I wonder how much say she had in the casting? The great thing about the Harry Potter films was the perfection of the casting and the Strike cast is spot on.

Some of us remember his Mum the actress Anna Calder Marshall. I wonder when the next series will be.

Tom Burke Bluebelle - from before Cormoran Strike! War and Peace, the Three Musketeers (I asked DH why he was watching it, then noticed Athos and decided the series was worth watching grin).

BlueBelle Wed 07-Mar-18 08:23:11

Gosh I wonder if Tom Burke is flattered or scared stiff at all these grannies and their fantasies ???
Now the question is are we all drooling over Tom Burke or Cormorant Strike ? or maybe a combination ....a great actor who can have so many of us enjoying him and his character
Well done Tom
On a serious note I think Robin was a great actress too very believable and the chemistry worked wonderfully I supposed by marrying the none person it has left us waiting for the next series and the ‘affair’ or is it just that real life is mainly a bugger and rarely ends as we want it
Worth so much longer series though, far too quick that was the only disappointment

I love this programme but must confess I am not too bothered about who did what to whom I am enjoying the evolving relationship between Robin and Cormoran. (I have just read that the programme is haemorrhaging viewers at an alarming rate. Hopefully it was fake news).
PS. Back off peeps, Tom is mine.

I enjoyed Strike though must have lost concentration a bit because I got confused as to who the murderer was. I thought the characters and the acting was very good. Perhaps "unrequited love" is more dramatically "edgy" than "happy ever after".

I watched Requiem for a couple of episodes and then halfway through the third one decided it was too tedious to continue watching.

Deedaa Tue 06-Mar-18 22:19:41

I've stuck with Requiem although I'm losing the will to live when everything is so dragged out. Why on earth couldn't they have given more time to Strike? Four episodes wouldn't have been too much, all her books are so detailed there's plenty of material in them. I do like Holliday Grainger, such a pretty girl but with loads of character. Tom of course is lovely! If anyone is worried about a baby with a cleft palate I can only say that I find that his scar makes his mouth look incredibly kissable. wink

Mamie Tue 06-Mar-18 08:01:10

I am not sure that it was clear. I have re-read it and she says “I do” looking not at Matthew but straight into the eyes of Strike.
I think I assumed the Vicar would have stopped it at that point.
I was disappointed by the adaptation. So much of the story was lost because it was ridiculously rushed and needed at least three episodes. Such a waste.

I’ve read all 3 books and they do marry at the end of Career of Evil.
I can’t quote, as I’ve passed the book on. Maybe the wording was a too subtle!

kittylester Tue 06-Mar-18 06:47:18

Sorry all of you but I think he belongs to DD2 who actually RANG me up after the first episode of The Musketeers to check I'd seen him!

Jalima1108 Tue 06-Mar-18 00:37:32

Too late Bluebelle
Sorry wink

It's rare for me too but I refuse to share.

Maggiemaybe Mon 05-Mar-18 23:40:22

I’m going to have to find a copy of the book now. Spoils it a bit when you know whodunnit. Though if I leave it a couple of months no doubt I’ll have forgotten. grin

Maggiemaybe Mon 05-Mar-18 23:34:17

But the Express (always to be believed wink) says that readers are OUTRAGED by the spoiler about the wedding, Ilovecheese. They’ve even rolled out their uppercase font to emphasise the point.

Matthew is over-protective. It will drive her wild after a while. And it will develop into 'control', he is that type.

I don't think she would be ground down by him, but who knows, it can happen to the best of us :-(

Ilovecheese Mon 05-Mar-18 16:02:04

kittylester here's hoping!

BlueBelle Mon 05-Mar-18 15:48:03

Sorry Jalima I was smitten from the last series and it’s VERY VERY rare for me to be smitten these days ?

Jalima1108 Mon 05-Mar-18 15:41:04

Tom Burke was also in The Musketeers, where he was even more rugged and smouldering!
I'm sorry, all of you - he's all mine, I claimed him several threads ago when everyone else's attention was on Aidan Turner and someone else whose name I've forgotten.

kittylester Mon 05-Mar-18 14:48:07

There's always divorce though!! grin

Ilovecheese Mon 05-Mar-18 14:40:53

I've read the books and she does marry Mathew in them. This was one time that I hoped that a TV series would change the end of a book!

Rosieroe Mon 05-Mar-18 11:16:05

Bluebelle - that was a real ‘BOO!’ moment when Robin was attacked. Nearly spilt my g&t. ?

Rosieroe Mon 05-Mar-18 11:11:39

I really like the fact that we know they love each other dearly but keep their distance through a sense of ‘what’s right’. The look in his eyes when she walked back down the aisle...... ? That did it for me. ❤️

Maggiemaybe Mon 05-Mar-18 11:06:13

I haven’t read the books (though I’m definitely going to look out for the next one), but I’ve seen that it left readers not knowing whether she said I do or not at the end. Some are cross that the BBC has spoilt the suspense.

Lazigirl Mon 05-Mar-18 10:09:20

Oh dear. I thought when he rushed in creating havoc just before she said "I do" that she'd run to him leaving the hapless Matt at the altar.

sodapop Mon 05-Mar-18 08:48:55

I agree kittylester what on earth was she thinking.

Maggiemaybe Mon 05-Mar-18 08:40:21

No it won't. If I'm fed up of him constantly mithering on about her job and having sly digs at her boss, I'm sure Robin must be.
