As it all happened many years ago and the woman wasn’t put on trial I think it wrong for us to make judgements How do we know it wasn’t someone with a grudge, or someone who made the age a bit younger to add spice.
If it was happening now and she was charged then I think you would have a very valid reason to boycott the film but the information is way too flimsy in my opinion
My favourite artist had dreadful morals leaving his wife and children to sleep with very young girls who’s ages I ve no idea of but I still immensely love his pantings

Then if in a state where it wasn't illegal she was not a paedophile

Did he say this after the divorce or what age when he lost his virginity ? You have decided she is guilty, I don't know

Who knows why she wasn't charged. But years later Tony Ray (the stepson) said that he'd lost his virginity to Gloria.

If it was in America, it is possible that 13 was not underage in some States.

Her then husband c laimed he saw them in bed , why wasn't she charged

I think the morals of anyone, including artists (of all kinds) has some bearing on their work. And yes, their poor moral compass does have an influence on whether I watch their films, listen to their music, read their books or admire their paintings. I'm not sure why we should not morally judge them, especially if, in the case of Polanski, he was found guilty by the court but fled to France rather than face his accusers and serve time for his crimes. He's a paedophile and a coward. What's to admire?

Do you not watch Polanski films because you don’t like his films or because he raped a 13 year old? I just think it’s interestin whether we should morally judge artists ( of all kinds) before we decide if we would watch their films, read their books, listen to their music etc?

I never watch Polanski films.

Yes she married the step son years later but he was only 13 when they were caught having sex. She had sex with a child. That makes her a paedophile.

vamp do you refuse to see Polanski films?

Anniebach Wed 15-Nov-17 17:33:35

Yet she married the step son

So it's OK to make a sympathetic film about a known paedophile because she's dead and isn't profiting from it?

Lots of films are made about unsavoury real life characters.

The woman is long-dead so it's not as though you would be lining her pockets, as you would going to see say a Woody Allen or Weinstein film.

I too like Annette Bening so hope to see this film.

...but I won't now!

shock

I was thinking of going to see this film, because I like Annette Bening as an actress.

This film is sponsoring programmes on some Freeview channels. I wondered if it was true so I googled Gloria Grahame. It turns out she really did exist and live in Liverpool for a while towards the end of her life.

So far so good. A nice sounding story with a sad ending. However, Gloria Grahame had a skeleton in her closet which made me think that perhaps she wasn't a suitable candidate for this sort of film.

One of her marriages broke down because her husband found her in bed with her 13 year old stepson. Yes 13 years old!!! Imagine if this had been a man found in bed with a 13 year old girl. Would he have been deemed suitable for a sympathetic film? I doubt it very much. He would have, quite rightly, been called a paedophile. Well the same goes for her. She had sex with a 13 year old child. That makes her a paedophile too.

What also surprises me is the calibre of the actors in the film. Annette Benning and Julie Walters to name but two. Why would anyone want to be in a film that is sympathetic to a paedophile even if the end of her life makes a good story?
