Anyone watching the new series? I only recently realised why Diana Rigg was in it; her daughter plays Mackenzie Crookes wife. The end of episode one, with the singing etc sent shivers down my spine; it was magical.

Series 3 finished fairly recently, NotTooOld. You need catch up or iPlayer or summat. We recorded it and watched it all back to back. Lovely!

We found it on Netflix .Recently got a new TV so only just able to access it.A revelation when nothing decent on live TV.I'm not sure if all episodes available on BBC iplayer.

NotTooOld Tue 23-Jan-18 15:36:48

I keep missing this. When is it on, please?

Washerwoman Tue 23-Jan-18 15:08:19

It's nominated that's meant to say !

Sorry, I must learn how to do links , but if you go to www.comedy.co.UK you can vote for the Comedy awards coming up.DH are late discovering how sublime Detectorists is,such a joy and beautifully written and acted. It's nominated in the returning comedy category, and I never usually vote in these things but felt it so deserves to win.

Yes; it sort of gives you a 'warm fuzzy feeling' watching it, doesn't it! Gosh; watching one every so often shock; you must be the sort of person that buys a box of chocolates and eats one a day. I've been know to sit up all night watching a box set [usually Game of Thrones or Vikings...].

I got a boxed set of all three series of The Detectorists for Xmas. It's the first boxed set I've ever had, in fact I've never had many videos or dvds, but I'm really enjoying watching an episode whenever I have a spare half hour.

It's great to see a clever, gentle British comedy so well written, well cast with great actors, beautifully filmed in Essex (but miles away from The Only Way is Essex). I wish there were more series like this.

Last summer OH and I stood watching them filming at Framlingham where much of it is set. They were filming some scenes in the scout hut where their ‘group’ meet which is right by the castle. Very low key, like the programme, and interesting to watch.

I have just started to watch this series as i bought a new tv which allows me to have BBC Iplayer, i am loving it, my DH pretends not to like it and even though he is using the computer he is passing comments about the prog so obviously taking note of what is going on. The characters in it are priceless it is pure fun, so gentle and absorbing. Wish i knew a bunch of people like those in it, life would be hilarious!!! lol.smile

I didn't see the previous series, but this one is beginning to grow on me. The settings, the wildlife and the music all add to the languid, laid-back, very English feel of it. Not a lot happens, but it's quite absorbing all the same. A refreshing change from pushy US drama/comedy or shouty comedians.

Thanks Auntieflo I knew I'd seen him before but couldn't place him. We love the show, the scenery and the music. The whole thing is gentle and fun and the two stars are excellent.

Another Detectorist fan here. I have just watched the latest episode, recorded, while I had my lunch, and I'm sure that the Estate agent, showing Andy and Becky round a new flat, was the chap who played 'Nigel' in the new Porridge series.

Tegan2 Tue 21-Nov-17 23:57:57

I'm prone to having a chunk of cheese late at night and tonight had to chuckle when I cut off a piece but didn't cut it quite straight so had to go back and have another piece using a sharper knife and cutting it much straighter. Maybe that's why I like Detectorists so much [you'll understand when you get to see series 3 felice smile].

Ohhh I so miss this, I loved this series. Unfortunately BBC has withdrawn BBC4 from the cable network I use, no other choices( too expensive seemingly).
Keep me up to date please folks xx

Tegan2 Tue 21-Nov-17 21:36:12

I think this is the third series.

lemongrove Tue 21-Nov-17 21:03:41

I didn’t know there was a first series, was it last year?
I enjoyed the episode ( with the time landscape) very atmospheric.

Tegan2 Sat 11-Nov-17 21:37:09

Thanks; couldn't remember when she'd had the baby. She was in a film I saw a while back; can't remember what it was but I spent the whole film thinking 'I should know who that is but I don't'; she has such a distinctive voice.

Pittcity Sat 11-Nov-17 21:33:35

Just googled and Stanley is played by twins. Rachel Stirling's own baby is only about 6 months old.

Tegan2 Sat 11-Nov-17 21:28:18

That's the thing about it; I don't like jokes like that usually, but it was so well done that I was sniggering away.

Pittcity Sat 11-Nov-17 21:22:51

That half hour flew by. I did childishly giggle at the "moist" jokes!

GrandmaKT Sat 11-Nov-17 19:13:03

DH and I really enjoy this. It's hidden away on BBC 4 though isn't it? I only saw one advert for it the night before. Some things seem to be advertised ad nauseum and some just slip by...

Tegan2 Sat 11-Nov-17 16:21:35

Wondering if Stanley is actually her own baby?

annsixty Fri 10-Nov-17 21:06:50

And hasn't young Stanley grown, he's gorgeous.

Greyduster Fri 10-Nov-17 21:02:31

We didn’t watch the last series, strangely enough because we like both Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones. On the face of it, it seems like an unpreposessing subject for a sitcom, but it’s very engaging.

Tegan2 Fri 10-Nov-17 20:47:33

The best comedy has to include pathos, doesn't it? This series does tear at the heartstrings though, doesn't it.
