Did anyone see the first episode of this last night? I had my misgivings about another series, thinking, what was there new to see or say, but I was completely blown away by it. The photography - especially the opening shots with the dolphins - was astonishingly beautiful, and I am always amazed by the expertise of these camera people and the lengths they go to to bring us such wonderful footage.

Oh my goodness, it was spectacular. I almost forgot to breathe!

I am pleased that they are showing "the making of" these series, although we all know David Attenborough is brilliant, all he is doing is narrating.

The dedication and skills of the camera operators are what actually make the programme, and I am so pleased that they are getting their recognition.

Attenborough is old and greedy, it spoils things for me , him droning on, when I know that so many younger people are awaiting their big break and he could so easily 'move over'.
He has more than made his money.

He is the very reason the world is in the state its in, old men, never wanting to give someone else a chance.

...although the nature reserve is at Attenborough and does have links with the Attenborough family...

Tegan2 Mon 30-Oct-17 17:53:13

Not underwatery but had to share the fact that we've booked to see Gordon Buchanan who's giving a talk at our local nature reserve#bitexcitedaboutthat

I remember being glued to ‘Diving to Adventure’ with Hans and Lotte Hass in the fifties - the forerunner of all the underwater wildlife programmes. Quite primitive by comparison to today’s hi tech photography, but very exciting at the time.

Loved the programme and for me it has to be David Attenborough, just wouldn't be right with anyone else. When he was younger he travelled and got very involved in the filming but he can't do that now of course.
Chris Packham? Never a fan as I didn't care for his obsession with raptors. Having seen the programme about him and Aspbergers though I now understand and see him in a totally new light.

Haven't seen it yet, but loved the first series. Undersea wildlife programmes always used to be the boring ones years ago but now they're the most breathtaking.

VIOLETTE I agree

And full of awe at the photography and the tremendous perseverance and skill of the cameramen/women.

Caro1954 Mon 30-Oct-17 16:23:54

David Attenborough puts me off watching these programmes. I like Chris Packham a whole lot more now that I understand him better - wish I'd known about the Aspergers earlier. Big lesson there for me. I have two friends with paranoid schizophrenia and prided myself on being open minded - seems I was wrong ...

Marieeliz Mon 30-Oct-17 15:49:44

It was brilliant, some of it did remind me of a trip to Newfoundland and Labrador to see the Icebergs, Puffins, Whales, Eagles.

VIOLETTE Mon 30-Oct-17 15:34:48

I loved it ...David Attenborough and all ....what amazing ocean life that I shall never see, only through the TV....couldn't believe some of the fish ! how about that one that turns itself into a male from being female !!! thought that was amazing ......I may be the odd one out, but if only I had half the enthusiasm for life and all its wonderful things that he has I will die happy ......and I am nowhere near his age ! fantastic !

Sparklefizz Mon 30-Oct-17 15:24:33

Oh, not David Tennant to narrate, nipsmum .... I'd have to put on the sub titles!

Morgana Mon 30-Oct-17 14:06:39

Attenborough has done an awful lot for the planet so don't let's write him off completely!

SiobhanSharpe Mon 30-Oct-17 13:18:50

I agree the photography was stunning and the new discoveries about various fish and other wildlife was wonderful, but it's always the same -- 'look at this fantastic creature, hugely intelligent and we had little knowledge of it until now, so beautiful too..... Oh wait, here comes a large predator and.....' Two gulps and it's violently eaten.
I find it quite wearing and hard to watch, TBH.

GillT57 Mon 30-Oct-17 12:48:32

The photography was spectacular.

CardiffJaguar Mon 30-Oct-17 12:27:53

Thrilling. Every time he comes up with something new and spectacular; what a joy.

Coconut Mon 30-Oct-17 11:46:44

Just amazing, and I also recorded BBC Four, “legends of the deep” narrated by David Attenborough ???? all breathtaking photography....

glammanana Mon 30-Oct-17 11:39:35

The best hours TV in a long time, fabulous photography and charming voice of David Attenborough just adds to the enjoyment for me.

Mapleleaf Mon 30-Oct-17 11:36:05

It was a fantastic programme. I don't agree that David Attenborough is boring. Quite the opposite, in fact, and incredibly knowledgeable. Nothing wrong with Chris Packham, either, though I think David is the right choice for The Blue Planet.

nipsmum Mon 30-Oct-17 11:33:57

Blue planet was fascinating. I'm not a great fan of Attenborough and would like someone like David Tennant to narrate, but the quality of filming and explanation was excellent. It's one of the best things BBC does..

garnet25 Mon 30-Oct-17 11:32:57

Think it is well worth watching for the amazing photography and above all for its conservation message.

nanasam Mon 30-Oct-17 11:12:49

Not a big fan either but you have to admire the photography. We have a new big screen TV (HD, 4K, [shrugs with confusion]thlhmm) so I'm hoping it'll be a good and clear recording!

RAF Mon 30-Oct-17 11:04:55

My cats loved it!

Actually worth it for the amazing photography, that dragon fish was something else!

Neilspurgeon0 Mon 30-Oct-17 10:59:07

No Ann I don’t like him either, always seems a bit pretentious to me, holier than thou

TillyWhiz Mon 30-Oct-17 10:57:07

Phew, what a relief there are others who feel the same, we don't watch David Attenborough either. I always catch up with the best bits on Gogglebox!
