Things which annoy or puzzle you on telly or in films

I find it strange how people can always phone others ( even their enemies) with about two pushes of the buttons.

They say, " I'll meet you tonight". There is no mention of where or when, but, as if by magic, both people turn up.

They can also decide to leave ( usually in Eastenders), and are in the black taxi the next day ( or even the same day!)

I know, I need to get out more!

What was that cold case crime series with Trevor Eve?
They had their own pet forensic scientist in the middle of their office as far as I can recall.
She did everything - she must have invented multi-tasking.

The advert with the laughing skeleton, must frighten young children

Also the pathologists always manage to get the results of a DNA test in a couple of hours. When detectives are searching a database for someone they find him/her with just a few clicks of the computer keyboard.

Oh I do enjoy this thread! You have mentioned most of my pet irrations.
In soaps, not particularly well off people being able to afford to move house at short notice. Housing crisis? what housing crisis.

Many crime drama pathologists having to carry out a PM in extremely poor light. One anglepoise desk light or such.
A really annoying fad of some directors trying to add atmosphere but just looking B stupid.

Yes, just occasionally he is allowed down, presumably for a bath or shower!

sunseeker Wed 02-Aug-17 17:24:00

Jalima - yes I always feel sorry for him, but they do let him into the studio sometimes - I gather there is a shelter up there for all the equipment so perhaps he lives in there during the day.

Jalima1108 Wed 02-Aug-17 17:17:56

Poor Ian, he seems very nice
but must have been up there all day because he always looks as if he needs a shave

gillybob Wed 02-Aug-17 17:08:05

grin Phoenix

Could be a friend of Fiona Inthestudio

(sorry, pathetic I know)

phoenix Wed 02-Aug-17 17:04:02

Perhaps he has B.O. or a flatulence problem, Jalima?

Or is his name actually "Ian Ontheroof" and they thought it would be funny to put him there?

(I'll get me coat) blush

Jalima1108 Wed 02-Aug-17 16:58:58

Why does our BBC weather forecaster stand on the roof in inclement weather?
"Over to Ian on the roof"
Let him come inside please

gillybob Wed 02-Aug-17 16:56:27

Good point. I've often wondered about that too devongirl I mean do they have to stand outside the houses of parliament to talk about something that was discussed inside?

devongirl Wed 02-Aug-17 16:27:08

For that matter, why are reporters apways 'standing outside' wherever they're talking about? Unless they're interviewing people, why bother, why not save the money and have them in the studio??

hulahoop Wed 02-Aug-17 15:32:07

Why do reporters have to always be outside 10 Downing Street etc when obviously no one is there . Have also wondered how big houses are in soaps and who is looking after children .

libra10 Wed 02-Aug-17 15:24:39

Why are BBC and ITV drama series so dark and difficult to hear?

Have just been catching up with Poldark, and some of the scenes are impossible to see or make out any details. Also, the actors' voices are lost under the overwhelming background music as the tension rises.

I realise all the sound effects etc are to increase drama, but please give us a chance to hear what is being said!

BlueBelle Wed 02-Aug-17 15:21:54

Kim I watched In the dark i quite enjoyed it BUT that pregnancy she had a completely round unreal beach ball on her belly and where I have seen most women 'hold' their bumps with a hand either side she walked around with one hand on the top one hand on the bottom making it look even more like a beach ball It was SO unreal

Horatia Wed 02-Aug-17 14:54:42

Adverts and interviews where people sound like they have phoney vowels "shoooved in" sounding hammed up. No one says won/one now they seem to say woooooon. I was just wooooondering what's happening.

leemw711 Wed 02-Aug-17 14:43:51

That last message should have said that I parked outside a SHOP!

leemw711 Wed 02-Aug-17 14:42:55

Know what you mean about hospital parking - our local one has a 10 minute limit! No chance in getting anything done, even a blood test, in 10 minutes. Could be worse though - I parked outside a shot recently to collect an order and received a £100 parking fine. Grrr!!!

grannyinmypocket Wed 02-Aug-17 14:24:23

Every one that leaves Eastenders goes away in a taxi and they only ever have 1 suitcase or hold all after having lived in the same place for years., also they always have room for numerous house guests the houses must have loads of hidden bedrooms, as for Poldark, I'm too busy looking at Ross Poldark to notice the location ,

Jalima1108 Wed 02-Aug-17 14:20:55

It's the super-fast horses fluff grin

And they stand on the cliffs of North Cornwall and watch the ships sailing off to France from Charlestown - sorry Falmouth! Or is it Truro - can tall ships get up the river as far as Truro?

fluff Wed 02-Aug-17 13:48:31

As for location changes, it's not just in London where it happens, in Poldark they seem to be able to walk from Cornwall to Gloucestershire within an amazingly short space of time.

fluff Wed 02-Aug-17 13:46:20

How about when there's a whole family on a soap but one of the characters suddenly appears with a deep tan and all the rest are pale, you'd think they'd use some make up to cover up the fact that that actor has just returned from their holidays.

langelei Wed 02-Aug-17 13:31:29

The presentation of Passchendaele was excellent - except for Kirsty Young making so many blunders over names, titles and places, despite the fact she had numerous papers spread in front of her, which no doubt had all been researched meticulously for her. Ugh! confused

Emmaline Wed 02-Aug-17 13:31:10

What does some funny coloured hedgehogs .. I presume they are .. have to do with butter? I just don't get the connection ?

GrammaH Wed 02-Aug-17 13:30:48

Have you noticed that no 2 characters ever have the same first name? We know lots of David's, for example, but there's only one of each on tv! I was reminded of another stupid thing on a drama on Monday, when a character emerged from his cottage carrying 3 suitcases which were supposed to be full but quite obviously had nothing in them. Why? It so often happens but how easy would it be to put a bit of ballast in?!
