So, we have an ad for someone deciding to jilt their potential bridegroom at the last minute, she's got the wedding frock (love the word frockgrin) everything seems to be set up, but at the last minute she decides against it.

The ad is for chewing gum...confused

If anyone can explain the concept behind that, I would love to be enlightened, or though I suppose the fact that I'm asking about it says something!

Still won't be buying any chewing gum though, revolting stuff!

My guilty pleasure advert is the young vampire....its for an appalling product (online gambling) but I love his character.

I love the dog ad. Where he makes everywhere muddy and a cleaning product cleans it. With the multi national ads. Often they are foreign and don't get how our sense of humour. That's why they have voice overs explaining the product so they can be done in different languages.

Hate the direct line ones
.love the ostrich

I get fed up with rdio ads on classic fm too!

The furniture 'gold for the price of silver'guy and the dirty look he gets from his boss.

I've had nasty stuff to deal with and see no harm in the light-hearted stuff on here. The categories are clearly labelled. One does not have to dip into a lighthearted thread if one does not want to. When its been pretty dark, laughing at something incongruous has helped me.
To be honest laughing life during our worst nightmares has been a much admired British trait....think of all those wonderful posters from the war.

Out here in the sticks our TV is very unsophisticated....we cant pause/stop them or whatever you trendy types do but to be honest I'm glad of the chance to take dog out, put kettle on or dash to the loo.

Not sure what to make of the Haribo,s adverts with the adults talking in children's voices ! Nor the Nationwide ones with random people coming on spouting random things! But do like the Mcvitities chocolate biscuits ones were little kittens come out of the packets....obviously the child in me still!

Slightly off subject but sometimes what looks like chewing gum all over the pavements is not chewing gum at all but a lichen.

Fascinating really.

I hardly ever see any ads. Ads are when I make tea, visit the bathroom, fetch a hanky, bring in the washing, take it upstairs, check tomorrow's weather forecast, take out the rubbish, throw the peelings on the compost heap (last night - go down the garden with a torch to fetch in the drill I had been using on the fence and forgot about), if I am babysitting check my grandson is still breathing, and so on and so on. I just don't notice the ads.

Do you think they've started filming those Christmas adverts already? I wouldn't be surprised!

Craftycat Thu 25-May-17 12:44:33

Record everything on commercial stations & whiz through the ads.
You can always pause it if you want to out & make a coffee or get a bottle of wine!
I refuse to be preached at in my own house- but I do watch Christmas M&S & JL ads at least once.

Mauriherb Thu 25-May-17 12:37:28

By the way. The sales at DFS and SCS end bank holiday Monday!!!!!! And next Monday and the one after .............

Caro1954 Thu 25-May-17 12:29:47

And I'm sorry some of you are having a rough time. I've just had an operation and am fed up too. But it's sunny outside and I'm hoping to be cheered up by GN's! flowers for all of you.

inishowen Thu 25-May-17 12:28:04

The Specsaver ads are brilliant though.

Caro1954 Thu 25-May-17 12:27:53

Adverts have no effect on me whatsoever as I can never understand/record and whizz over them! wink

HMarie Thu 25-May-17 12:26:44

Re the James Corden ad for Confused.com (or one of those), did anyone notice that it started out with him saying "Now THAT's how you park in this town!" and then suddenly ditched the Mr Greenlight beginning and became much shorter, ending with him saying instead "And that's why they call me the Parking Master". Totally trivial, sorry, but I just wonder if the town where it was filmed actually complained about the original ad?

Jaycee5 Thu 25-May-17 12:10:17

phoenix if you watch tv programmes online on catch up you can't fast forward the adverts. They can't always be avoided. They are important anyway in that they do influence people and are a massive part of our economy.
I often watch YouTube films or old programmes when I go to bed and I keep getting bloody Theresa May. At least you can skip them after a few seconds but it is not what I would choose to see before going to sleep.

I think the ads for vaginal dryness should be on after the watershed I had a t call from my cousin (single dad) asking advice as his 9 yr old had asked what vaginal dryness was! Also loathe the air freshener one with the VIP loo showing contents of the loo don't think any of us need so much detail ?

floorflock Thu 25-May-17 11:38:02

My bugbear with them these days is that they are using (some very well known) cartoon characters which makes me feel that they are really targetting children! A very naughty thing to do. However additionally most adverts are so obscure that I don't even know what they are for...??

Mauriherb Thu 25-May-17 11:29:54

Nanny27 I agree but must also add the one about mucous coughs ! Apart from that I find some boring (James cordon and go compare ) but some make me smile, like berroca and the latest Sainsburys one.

Gaggi3 Thu 25-May-17 11:25:58

Must admit liking the ad that used to be on for Beagle St. insurance as it had a real beagle.

Nanny27 Thu 25-May-17 11:19:20

I know we are supposed to be enlightened but does anyone else find adverts for vaginal dryness a tad disconcerting at tea time?

bev1 Thu 25-May-17 11:17:36

HellsBells, same here, think he just had a cheeky face!

oldgaijin Thu 25-May-17 11:16:59

I just love the ostrich that flies...Have no idea what it's advertising but it makes me laugh!

Lillie Thu 25-May-17 11:14:44

Yes Deedaa the M & S advert has me puzzled too! I rather liked it until the end when the M &S logo popped up! I assume it means we should shop for quality, only the best will do. They're using the slogan on their food adverts too.
