Waitrose joins the competition with a lovely little feelgood film smile

The robin is migrating from Scandinavia. We get a lot of Scandinavian robins and blackbirds in the winter as well as the more obvious migrants like redwings and fieldfares.

Ana i had 2 robins in the garden on monday sharing crumbs that i put out.

Lovely !!!!

We may still have that book somewhere, I will see if I can find it for the DGC.

I really need a clear out blush

Yes, I do think the robin is sweet, it's just that it does suspend belief!

Waitrose just sent me a voucher for £10? if I spend £120. I don't think I'll be using it.

I liked it. It reminded me of the Medici storybook Robin Finds Christmas. I think is was by Molly Brett. A Christmas Eve story when the DCs were little.

Its Ok doesn't say much about their produce but I suppose we all know what they do and their food speaks for itself. I don't really need an ad to remind me to go shopping. Thank heaven we haven't got a Waitrose in this town or I would never be out of it. (No M & S either!)

rosesarered Mon 14-Nov-16 10:30:16

I wouldn't share a mince pie either! grin

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 23:29:10

Bah humbug from me too!

Some robins do migrate but most are territorial and stay around their own patch. The ones who do migrate have gone off to the Continent already.
They wouldn't be sharing a mince pie with another robin either!

Apart from that - ah, sweet.

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 22:49:06

Bah humbug! grin

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 22:37:42

You're too practical Ana grin suspend all that and embrace the fantasy.

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 20:59:31

I've never seen two robins together like that. They're very territorial and one male will fight another male to the death.

Goodness knows how they get together with their partners!

I liked the advert but thought it a bit silly really. Where on earth was it flying from?

That's a better one!

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 19:30:22

That's lovely DaphneB thanks for posting it.tchsmile

Love it Daphne, love the ads too but now feeling sad about waste of money that could have been used to help disadvantaged people at Christmas.

DaphneBroon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:49:30

"The North wind doth blow
And we shall have snow
And what will the Robin do then poor thing?
A mince pie from Lidl and some mulled wine to tiddle
And some more from Aldi, Waitrose and M&S for later under his wing (lucky thing)"

Candlefran Sun 13-Nov-16 17:44:48

Iceland Luxury mince pies have come out top in the Good Housekeeping thingie. Nothing less should be given to the robin after all that travail. Poor thing.

DaphneBroon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:44:45

No it wasn't harrigran it was "pushing" the whole JL partnership as the ultimate destination for all your Christmas shopping! ?
Just as the Waitrose ad is not about bird food and the M&S ad is not just about those red sparkly trainers! ?
smile

Candlefran Sun 13-Nov-16 17:42:19

I'm not sure the best Christmas ads push any particular item. They are meant to give you a warm glow towards the store.

harrigran Sun 13-Nov-16 17:39:20

These adds do not cost around a million pounds, the John Lewis one cost 7 million and I think that is obscene. The advert was pushing one item, a trampoline for goodness sake.

DaphneBroon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:15:36

Charleygirl are you seriously saying you would put inferior grin mince pies out for your robin? ???

I was really anxious for the poor Robin until he was safe tucking into his Christmas mince pie.

I liked the ad.

Charleygirl Sun 13-Nov-16 16:31:49

I loved the ad but an endearing ad like that would not make me go running to Waitrose. My head rules my heart.

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 16:03:56

I see that these ads cost not just thousands of pounds but around a million pounds.

I feel that there is something slightly obscene in spending so much money to make us spend even more at a time of supposed austerity!

I love Christmas and can ooh and aaah as much as the next person at cute feel good adverts but maybe , like the campaign to stop businesses advertising in certain media outlets, I should put action where my mouth is and campaign that next year the money could be sent to crisis at Christmas or other good causes instead!

Greyduster Sun 13-Nov-16 16:01:13

That's the best one yet!
